yeah, e2 stops opening input devices as soon as one is missing.
You'd have to move the last one back to 0. Suppose event2 is your highest input device:
rm event0
mv event2 event0
However, this will fail when you plug in a keyboard (which would then be event3, and will be ignored because 2 is missing)

well, then final(i hope) version looks
on dm8k i have five, without any external(keyboard; mouse) device connected
rm /dev/input/event0 && mv `ls /dev/input/event*| tail -n1` /dev/input/event0
