There is a new function in OpenPLi. :)

Add OpenPli specific smbnetfs configuration and init script

Install smbnetfs and you can browse around your network via the

regular movieselection. No need for manual mount stuff.

Do we have to wait till tomorrow? I can not find it in the plugins. (OpenPLi 4.0 @ vuultimo)

root@vuultimo:~# opkg install smbnetfs
Unknown package 'smbnetfs'.
Collected errors:
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package smbnetfs.
root@vuultimo:~# opkg list *smbnetfs*

I've got smbnetfs installed now (on Solo2 on PLi from yesterday evening).

But regarding

Install smbnetfs and you can browse around your network via the

regular movieselection. No need for manual mount stuff.

I have no idea how. Nothing seems to have been changed.

Reflashed and reinstalled smbnetfs: /media/samba is now present but empty.

Installing samba (opkg install samba) made no difference.

The networkbrowser sees all cifs locations as usual.

Do I need to install anything extra to get smbnetfs to work?

It is always empty by default, it works a bit like autofs.

if you do

cd /media/samba/<computername>/<share>

it should automount that share from that computer.

If the share is password protected, you need to do
cd /media/samba/user:password@<computename>/<share>

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

And to be complete, smbnetfs also supports a smbnetfs.auth file, that has to be created in the same place as the smbnetfs config file.

In it you can put:

auth <ip>/<share> <username> <password>

after which you can do

cd /media/samba/<ip>/<share>

without specifying the credentials on the commandline.

OK, will try that later today.

But if you have to do things this way: what exactly is the advantage over using the network browser that even has a GUI to make life easy?

I really thought that the idea would be to freely browse in the samba environment (more or less as Windows Explorer does).

Which box are you using? Important because it might explain why you don't have "fuse" which should have been integrated in your kernel.

On my box, it immediately shows all workgroups as subdirectories, and below that the machines, and then all shares.

Of course, this will only be the case if your network is browsable to begin with.
