OK, I see... I did not take srt subtitles into account.

Hm, how about assigning the valis_enigma font to teletext subtitles only in skin_subtitles.xml.
Would that work without affecting srt subs?

It is for 99% the same....

I'm afraid it's not... the new font is thinner and about 30% smaller in hight.

Just increasing the maximum font size is not as satisfying as the old font.

The old font is just perfect, please leave it as default for teletext subtitles.

Then make it a bit larger... I suppose it needs a bit less scaling... I took 80% now...
But I'm still searching.....

That is exactly my point. The actual font is just not as legible as the old one (which you read fine at size 34).

Hence my suggestion to revert to the valis_enigma font at least for teletext subtitles.

I have posted the corresponding skin_subtitles.xml yesterday...

(tested it before, of course. It does not affect external subs)

Thanks

We should not fall back to what it was... as we should solve the issue...

I did scale at 80% which makes the fonts smaller as at 100% I saw some black left overs on the screen. I personally did change the size from 34 to 40... Possibly I can consider to scale at e.g. 95% or so...? Or make 40 default from now on... Or scale it asymmetric...

We should look for a good font, which also contains greek and russian characters and has also Italic, Bold, ItalicBold on board....

@littlesat

The requirements you mention (italic, bold, russian, greek) are true only for external subtitles.

I cannot see any reason why we cannot keep the good old valis_enigma font for teletext subtitles...

Would you please reconsider?

I want a complete fontset that is working well.. Taking complete different fonts between normal/italic/bold is not done I suppose...

So someone has to deliver a complete fontset - without I do not change anything.

The Verdana font is as far I can see exactly the same as the Valis-enigma2 font... The characters look exact the same... onlry the numbers 0..9 were change as valis did alter them from the orriginal ;)....That was why I choose this font.

I did only scale them 80% down because of sometimes you could have black "leftovers" from the borders...

So when you select a 20% larger size (34 -> 40) everything should look the same....

@littlesat

I understand that you need a complete fontset for EXTERNAL subtitles, which indeed support bold and italic. Verdana is by far not the best choice, but until a better font is found, it will do.

But that should not affect TELETEXT subtitles, which already had a great font.

All I'm asking is to leave the teletext font as it was, because there is no reason to replace it and you will most certain not find a better one.

Mixing normal/bold/italic is not going to happen as the fonts are assignd separately for teletext and external.

I refuse to use an exeption for teletekst subs. They is just à durty workaround... Especially Because THE fonts are in fact THE same. At this moment I'm investigating to make THE current front Aboutaleb 30% higher als I prefer to go for à final solution or I prefer to have à good alternative font set

Would you at least consider an asymetric scaling of the Verdana font?

A hight of 100% and width of 80% or so?

I suppose this can be done via the skin_subtitles.xml.

But I am no skin expert, so I don't know all available attributes.

I can also consider to change to Arial (in fact VLC's choice....)....

At this moment enigma2 does not support asymetric scaling of fonts...

Another thought... what about copyright? Shouldn't we use a free font?
