hello

i am using openpli4 on a Max Digital XP1000 with an external USB Hard drive.

My problem is that the hard drive is not mounted as /media/hdd/ but as /media/usb/

Also when i access it from my windows pc by entering \\boxIP\harddisk the share is not valid and not working.

Is there a way i could fix this and make the hard drive mount as HDD and also fix the \\boxIP\harddisk share?

thank you in advance

Easiest solution is to not worry about it.

Use \\boxname\Root and go to media/usb to find the harddisk's contents in Windows.

Regardless of where the disk is mounted, the box will automatically use it for recordings and such by default. If that doesn't work, i.e. you cannot record things, please report it because that would be a bug.

that gives me two problems:

1. (more important) the autoinstall function of the autobackup plugin does not seem to work

2. (inconvenience) i have too many devices in my family (PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphonesphones) with shortcuts to \\boxIP\harrdisk\movie that need to be manually changed to \\boxIP\root\media\usb\movie

If you could provide me with a solution for the autobackup plugin i would be grateful

Thanks

You can change the path of the backup in the plugin.

Also but i'm not sure ,you can label de usb disk "hdd"

Wouldn't soft or had link work?

sometjing like this:

#cd /

#ln -s  /media/hdd /media/usb

Look at this for details: http://www.computerh...om/unix/uln.htm

i have changed the path of the backup location to USB from in the plugin and i can backup ok but that is not my problem, my problem is that when i flash the new image the autoinstall does not work because (that is my guess) the new image looks at media/hdd and not media/usb

If you can tell me how to label the USB disk to HDD it would be nice.

Wouldn't it not be a lot easier to change the path mapping in /etc/samba/smb.conf, so that the Harddisk share maps to /media/usb ?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

that was exectly what i was after, thanks for pointing out.

will have to look into how to make the autoinstall of the autobackup plugin work now

That's probably unrelated, autoinstall also supports USB sticks and such. It does not care under what name things are mounted.

If it doesn't work, it's for other reasons (e.g. network not available yet).

I have just noticed this thread.

I am about to re-flash my ET9000 soon and from my experience it seems my external Samsung HDD is mounted as /media/usb/ instead of /media/hdd/.

Question 1) Is it better to re-flash my box with the HDD connected or disconnected?

Question 2) Is there a way to make sure the HDD will be mounted as HDD, not USB?

Thanks.

1) Whatever works is fine. If you flash without the disk attached, remember to put a new autobackup onto the flash device that you use for upgrading.

2) The system doesn't care where it's mounted. It just looks for the largest local disk, "hdd" isn't hardcoded any more. If you want to mount it under another name, you can rename the disk and give it "hdd" as label (using tune2fs or so).
