I was not talking about any requests, I was talking about our (mostly mine) elaborations about enigma2 coding style!

On topic, as requested... Although we really want to re-design the whole EPG-system because it sucks in a major way, we know it's not going to happen anytime soon, because all sorts of other things have to be done as well (like keeping a build server alive...). And although personally I probably wouldn't be using OpenTV EPG, I would have no objection to having it added. The only thing is that it's not going to be done by me, because I simply don't have the time for it. So in the end, it's again "patches very warmly accepted".

I would very much like to have OpenTV in XMLTVImport as an option but don't you guys think that the EPG for Sky UK grabbed from the internet is actually better than that of OpenTV?

Sometimes, sometimes not. But it would be handy for some people to have both, and/or not to have to rely on xml imports.

Open-TV is always actual, also very shortly after changes in the program.

OpenTV is straight from the transponder/broadcaster. Anything else is second hand data (and requires an internet connection).

Anyway it's a shame PLi has decided to not include this feature unless PLi is completely rewritten. Don't really understand why because other new features are being added on a daily basis.

It is mot a shame at all.... Someone needs to make it good and integrate it into enigma2... As we are opensource that someone could be anybody. I remember I pushed a commit for UK cable a long time ago...

I don't understand why people write plugins which they have to maintain and distribut themselves while they could just extend the source code and have someone else maintain it for them.

A psychologist I once had a training from thaught me that all people are driven by three things: fun, money and status.

To be able to function in the open source community, you have to do it for fun. There is no money to be made (directly), and there is only limited status (as you are just a contributor to a product). This leads directly to your question: if instead of contributing they create their own plugin, the status factor rises. It is their plugin, their name attached to it. It is also why most of them refuse to release source code. They are so afraid someone else (with the same state of mind) takes that code and "steals" their moment in the spotlights...

Now I'm confused. I was asking for this to be native in E2 so we can do away with the plugin.

And for the record I've always been happy for PLi to use any code I've written, but unfortunately this OpenTV thing is beyond me because I'm not a CPP coder, which is why I opened this request.

The enigma2 core also consists of lots of Python code. And you can insert EPG data into the system from Python, that's what the EPGImport does for example. Besides that, most of the work is figuring out the prototol. Once there's a Python OpenTV implementation, it's easy enough to convert that to C++ code, I'd volunteer to do so myself probably.

And it isn't clear from the Cross-plugin how to read it?

Can't see how you could even start to do this in python. The code is all in epgcache.cpp, and when LraiZer did it for UK cable it was just a few lines of code. Surely it makes sense for someone that is familiar with that file and CPP to do it.
