Recently a bug has appeared in Openpli 4.0 whereby the box will not restart enigma2 nor will it reboot from the remote.All it does when you try is to give the constant spinner and this continues forever.

This doesn't happen all the time and there is no telling when it will occur,you can go a few days without it happening and then it can happen twice in a row.

This is not just my setup as Ive spoken to others who also have this bug,all are using VU+ boxes though,so I cant speak for other boxes.

The only solution when this happens is to telnet into the box and issue the killall enigma2 command or the reboot command.This is most annoying if at that time the PC is not switched on.

Please look into this.

As I said I know of at least 4 other people who have experienced this on VU+ boxes.

Ian.

Nope

No crash occurs.

You select restart or reboot from the remote and all that happens is you get the constant spinner. It never goes until you telnet in and issue the killall enigma2 command or the reboot command.But as stated,you can go days without this happening,then out of the blue for no apparent reason the box will not restart and after you have restarted it from telnet its as though it never occurred and restarts work as they should,until the next time it decides to happen.

Ian.

There is however a common denominator,but I was reluctant to mention this in case it was just coincidence and sent the devs looking in the wrong direction,but all the peeps who have experienced this,myself included,all use external HDD's connected via the USB port.

This probably has no relevance though,hence the reason I didn't want to mention it.

Other than that though it happens on various VU+ models including the Solo,Duo and Solo2.

Ian.

Sounds more like a vu specific issue when you have a harddrive on the usb port ... Probably we cant't even solve it...

Hmmmmmmm

I can go along with it being VU+ specific,but its only just started,its not been there all along,and for years of using Pli images it didn't happen,so something you have recently changed within the image has caused this to start,so that being the case,you can also fix it,if you have a mind to.

I do admit however,that it will be difficult to find the cause of this bug,but not impossible.

Anyway you are aware of it now,which is half the battle.

Ian.

I have had the same issue and use internal HDD, if I use Update and reboot it happens almost every time, if I Update and ask to reboot I have not had the problem.

I think the problem started back in March for me.

When the reboot does not happen: telnet in to your box and issue a reboot command there.

Sometimes when doing an online update from telnet prompt with:

init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade -force-overwrite && reboot

The 4th instruction (reboot) is not passed along.

Giving then:

reboot

the box reboots.

Perhaps something similar is going on?

Yes it failed because there is a typo error in the command should be:

init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade --force-overwrite && reboot

it is --force-overwrite and not -force-overwrite

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.
