For some days now I get a spinner that can only be removed by a reboot. This mostly happens while using mediaportal, but also while streaming a movie from another box or yesterday by just switching channels. Finally I was able to at least get some log of it:

This is either a driver bug or failing hardware. Can it be it becomes too hot?

Thanks for your reply. I guess you are right with your suspicion. With 4 tuners and an internal HDD I already feared that heat might become an issue although I didn't expect it to happen so soon and in this way. I moved some stuff around and found a better place for it.

As the situation didn't improve after I had moved the box I finally switched the first ET10000 with another one and I get the same error message. I guess this should eliminate heat and failing hardware as culprits.

Yep. Then it's a driver bug.

Not sure if it applies to this situation, but my et8000 was having strange problems as well.

The nic was down, up, down, up, down........

After changing the network cable the problem was gone for a while, but then the nic went down, up, down.... etc.

So then I suspected excessive heat as the culprit.

I don't use a hdd in the box, and had when I installed it disconnected the cable from the board.

Yesterday I hooked up the cable again, but after a while the problem was back.

What finally solved it was removing the fan from the original position -under the hdd mount plate- and fixing it with a screw on the cooler block on the SoC.

The temp -as seen in menu>info>about- went from 70 to 50 degrees and I don't see any problems anymore.

Does your et10000 run ok for a while -when cool- before it shows the problems?

Might as well try a fan on the SoC to see if it helps....

A driver update might have had an impact on the SoC temperature, because my box ran ok for over a year with the same setup.

Just my 2 cents...

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups

But still your setup seems to be special because nobody else have these problems.

I don't believe that it really is that special, 4x sat tuner + internal hdd seems quite normal to me. But I'm also astonished that nobody else is reporting anything like it.

The heat especially on the sat box is still an issue. I have installed the ET-fancontrol plugin which gives me those stand-by temperatures:

First ET10000  (2x cable tuner, internal hdd): system temperature 39, cpu temperature 64

Second ET10000 (4x sat tuner, internal hdd): system temperature 48, cpu temperature 78

While in use the cpu temperature usually is now around 88-92 (after watching for a few hours with PiP), the highest I ever saw was 98. But I never really could feel a connection between the temperature level and the box freezing. Just by watching and recording I can't get the box to freeze anymore which only happened once if it really occured that way. But if a video stream fails to start in the mediaportal plugin I can be pretty sure that I can quit the stream I tried to play via the drop-box and after the spinner appears it's all over. I can still get telnet access but init 4 won't work, only init 6.

The first ET10000 also showed this problem with the nic that kept restarting every few minutes. But there have been problems way worse with the V-Lan/Lan ports on both boxes. Either one disappeares completely or is activated without my doing after a reboot. Sometimes the router shows both macs connected simultaneously with two IP's, although only one should be present and only one cable is connected. But for now I have learned to live with that.

The second one doesn't show the behaviour with the restarting nic at all. On the other hand the log is full of this streamproxy warning which never appeared on the other one:

Jul 27 15:44:14 et10000 user.warn streamproxy: streamproxy: config file change detected, restarting

My primary box is an ET10000, 4 sat tuners, internal disk, and constantly in use for viewing, recording and streaming (don't have coax in the house, I use the fallback tuner).

It was one of the first series shipped, and I never have an issue with temperature or freezing.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Ok, so yesterday I got the same error message on a VU+ Solo2. As I don't believe that the hardware on 3 boxes is failing at the same time and now apart from the 2 ET10000's another brand is concerned I can't really believe that it's a driver bug either. What I can't fathom is why nobody else is having any trouble. Mediaportal seems to be more popular with other images but from what I read here and on other boards there are also a lot of users around that use it on Openpli.

You get a similar error message like in post 1? Or the streamproxy warnings?
