At first I thought it to be a hardware failure.  I disconnected all HDMI, all USB and the coax to the dish.  The system seemed to be okay for a while.  So I suspected the power supply was causing the problem.

My box will power off, randomly.  Then reboot and be back on.  Sometimes it'll settle, other times it'll begin a boot looping cycle.  It is unpredictable what will make it crash.

I read through these forums, tried removing the epg.dat, tried to isolate the problem.

I can't seem to solve this one, and am ready to buy all new hardware. Before I do that, can anyone tell me if it is software/OS related?

I am running an older version of openpli because... 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' and I rarely have internet access on, it is possible it tried to auto-upgrade itself but I highly doubt it.

Below is the crash log.  Any help would mean a world of good to me.  Thank you.

How can I risk reflashing or upgrading if it power cycles randomly? Won't losing power in the midst of a re-flash, brick it?

The First Stage bootloader is hardcoded, you won't loose it if power fails. If you suspect the power supply, maybe a good idea to check this first. Check for leaking capacitors. Check out the C807 section here. If you think the PSU is not at fault, reflash... If you use an internal HDD, disconnect this one before flashing...

Really power cycle? So total reboot and no E2 restart?
Normally it shouldn't brick your box as long as you don't flash the bootloader. But it would be better to first find the reason why the box restarts?

This is what happens: ONE of the following scenarios happen and I've no idea why:

scenario 1

-The box powers on.

-enigma launches

-openpli starts, gears turn

-the channel comes on, and begins to display

-it seems normal, but then at some random time, shuts itself off and begins to reboot.  Usually within 2 minutes or so

Scenario 2:

-the box powers on, loads openpli, the channel name displays but no signal, then reboots, and goes to scenario 1 or scenario 3

Scenario 3:

-it reboots repeatedly, always restarting after I see the Openpli logo and gears.  over and over and over until I power it off for good.

So I thought 'file system corruption' at first.  Though I didn't fsck it yet.

Then I thought 'epg load failure' and removed epg.dat (since then no new epg has shown up).

then  thought, maybe it is failing when trying to power the hdmi, the usb hd or the satellite dish... maybe PSU? So I detached each in turn... still no change.

I'm wondering if there is in fact a file system corruption so a re-flash might fix it.  who knows.

Does anyone see these symptoms and think 'oh I know what that is.'

It's been 3 years since I flashed my system with openpli, One of the reason I liked this product was because of the good documentation and instructions on how to flash, btw. so thanks for that!

Filesystem and EPG cannot be the problem. You would get a (kernel) crash without reboot or green screen and e2 restart in these cases.
I guess it's a hardware problem. Maybe PSU. As goldeneye said check the capacitors.

Yup, typical behaviour of a faultly power supply. Have it fixed immediately to prevent further damage, check the "C807" thread on this board for more info.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

I had an electronics engineer look at it, and he declared the system dead. Paint was chipped off the heat sync, and green glue points were turning bright yellow. HE told me the system was subjected to a lot of heat and was dead.

I asked him to replace the Capacitor c807, he resisted (pun intended)... but did it anyway, and the system is working again!

Thanks for the advice, if you hadn't have given it, I would have accepted that the unit was dead.

Hello

I have installed openPLI 4.0 and any time when I pressed "setup" the image crashed. Below is the crash log.  Any help would mean a world of good to me.  Thank you.

Still green screen every 'setup' choice. Only when I press the setup, the others commands works fine. I reinstall five time the image. What can I do?

Smells more like a plugin installed that captures the setup menu?

It crashes on the absense of the "config.plugins.softwaremanager.onSetupMenu" config item:

if menuid == "setup" and config.plugins.softwaremanager.onSetupMenu.value

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Yes, if I uninstalled the software manager everything working good, but this is not OK

What is the "software manager", and why do you need to install it?

Maybe I wasn't sufficient clear. I mean if I uninstall the 'softwaremanager plugin'  everything working good, but if I reinstall this plugin, my system is crashing. Interesting,  isn't is?
