If we use all of the EPG sent from satellite, that OpenPLi covers and gives us the control of (ON/OFF for various types of EPG), how does that affect the flash and working memory, please? Could you explain how this works - in lay person's terms, please?

I am asking because we have CrossEPG for the same providers and I am wondering if we could perhaps use both to a better effect, than if we only use one...

In various parts of Europe (and wider) CrossEPG, DDsubtitle Player and similar plugins are very important and because they can be "difficult", many of us are interested in the info, in order to set them up properly....

Thank you!

the risk of using multiple epg is that you get double entries in your graphic epg

XMLTV is PLI designed with Rytec sources.

Cross epg is Skaman/Sifteam? designed

The question is about their interaction - can they co-operate?

Does CrossEPG over-ride OpenPLi? Does it deactivate OpenPLi? Or...?

Satellite downloadable EPG (OpenPLi) and internet downloadable EPG (CrossEPG) - what to do, how exactly does this function etc.???

Any EPG source will be added to the already available EPG-data. That can lead to multiple entries of the same event.

No: I know Willy does a good job, but he can't possibly add thousands of channels. The problem is that EIT (and other EPG via transponder) can't be selected per satellite/channel.

Skip the 'regular'.

But indeed: the good thing about using traqnsponderdata such as EIT is that it only imports 'when needed' (i.e. when tuned).

Well, when you are downloading it, then a part of the process is "merging..." I.e. you might have EX-YU but also Slovenian EPG etc. Those need to be merged, I suppose, since parts might be overlapping...

I heard from a knowledgeable guy that CrossEPG completely stops/takes precedence/"takes over" from the built-in OTA EPG, taken in by OpenPLi... True?

I mean, we really need the info, to be able to set it up properly...

That can't be the case. And even if it would, tuning to a staion would again 'overrule' that data.

Enigma is simply fed with all EPG-data it gets, whatever the source is.

Seriously, could the coders give us some more detailed info, please?

How do we set it all up properly???

Flash/RAM/all included...

There is only one single EPG store, which is held in memory. Enigma dumps this store into epg.dat when it stops, and reads it back in when it starts, to avoid loss of EPG data. While running, the epg.dat file isn't used, it purely a backup mechanism.

Data is stored on service reference and timestamp. The last one that updates an entry wins. It doesn't matter what the source is, EIT, XMLTVEPG plugin, CrossEPG, or any of the other EPG readers present in Enigma.

Actually, there are different epg prio levels. Long term custom data has a low prio, normal eit has a higher prio, now/next eit has the highest prio, because it is supposed to be the most accurate.

Xmltv epg imports have a rather low prio, anything OTA will override it.

However, I do not know how crossepg imports it's data, and with which prio. We didn't develop it, and personally I've never used it (for my personal use, the OTA readers which we have in e2 suffice).

Also, note that even though high prio events override lower prio events, you could still end up with duplicate entries, as start/end times of imported data might not match, and event id's will be different.

@ gorski Thank You  :) , for starting this thread.  Thanks go to those that respond as well. Because in this case "gOOGLE" is not your friend.

What is  crossegp/ext.epg.dat ?  I ask, as when I (power off/on) I can reload by choice epg from crossepg but using only xmltvepg loses its data and I have to re-run it again to get the data back.

I have been trying to get a happy EPG over 28e,23.5e19e & 13e.

Until someone advises me better.

I use both crossepg and xmltvimport.

crossepg for MHW-spannish TV & OpenTV for UK.

xmltvimort for all other providers across my satellites/providers.

It would great if someone could help with this as a wiki/stickie

Best regards to all ColinB :)
