Could there be sources which handle; selected EPGs to be automatically google translated and served?

 

Let's say, someone takes whole French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish EPGs and auto-translate them to English and serve it on 1 souce. It would cover whole 13 and 19.2. Original names would differ a bit, but it would be the most useful addition to enigma2 scene.

 

Or a plugin which translates the whole EPG in the box?

 

A few years back, I had requested a plugin from the developer of Buyukbang Panel, which translates the EPG automatically. But he didn't have time to do so at that time.

This not simple to achieve.  Somebody has to write a plug-in for it. 

(However I doubt if Google will let you translate huge amounts op text.)

 

The result however is not all that bad:

In order to watch a program in a different language, you have to have a working knowledge of that language (spoken).  And most of the time the written language is easier to understand than the spoken version version.

So the EPG in the language of the channel would be no problem, or should not be a problem.

The online advantage I see is being able to see what's on for channels that have an original language track, like quite a few german channels.

 

So you can watch movies in english (in this case), but deciphering what movie is on is sometimes difficult.

If you have the German title automatic translated From German  (or French) into English,  you still would not know which movie is on.

Hi,

 

This plugin already exist, install it:

opkg update && opkg install enigma2-plugin-extensions-translator

Restart OpenPLi and enjoy, you will have it in Plugin EPG Translator and in the Extension menu. It will translate the current EPG Data to english.

 

And to get a summary in your own language of the movies in the EPG I would advice to install tmbd.

 

opkg update && opkg install enigma2-plugin-extensions-tmbd

I had to test this.

 

1.  The translator only translates the EPG for the current program.

If this could be expanded to any selected item, this would be great.

Does somebody know the author?  And could contact him for adding this service.

 

2. tmdb is only for movies.  But works great. 

However after install, configure it, otherwise you would get Russian.

Correction:

 

Translator has been updated, and will translate the EPG from the current channel now.  (more than one EPG entry)

And can also translate to your own language.  Use the menu button to configure this

 

Use the left and right arrows on you remote.

 

One negative point.  It will show paypal donation screens on each use.

Plugin translates also the info in any EPG selected. Just bring the EPG for the show you wanted to the front of the screen and press the Right Arrow Button.  PS: this is the button denoted > (on the numeric pad)

In the version log I found this:

I have however changed the code to prevent the extremely annoying PayPal message from ever displaying as well as making the icon flags half the size because i considered them to be too much in your face.

 

Anyway,the point is that its fine with Pli

Due to Paypal message, I consider this piece of software annoy-ware.

 

And I had 5 crashes within the hour.  Removed the plug-in and no crashes since then.  Could be coincidence.

It seems that when install a plug-in which has enigma2 listed as a dependency, this plug-in will also install the newest enigma2 file.

So problems.

 

We will continue this when the devs have sorted out the problem with the image updates.

How do you get rid of this PayPal message? 

Reducing the size of Icon flags is easy.  That I can do.

After using and seeing that Translator plugin is so inefficient, I see the solution as follows: If there could be source handlers who would automatically translate the whole EPG data they have and serve them in English in another source maybe that would be efficient.

 

Another option; maybe there could be "epg.dat" file downloader plugin and you download the imported data directly in a few seconds. People can import and serve in that way. Like I said before; French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish EPGs would cover the whole 13 and 19.2 channels. I believe more than half of the users would only need those EPGs translated in English. Other languages? There could be other server guys who can cover them too.

 

VHannibal, Italian guy, serving all the channel/bouquet updates. Why not there would be guys like him who serve custom epg.dat files according to everyone's needs?
