EIT is broadcasted, so it works the same on Enigma1 and Enigma2.
Which transponder broadcasts the EPG for a provider differs per provider. Some have an EPG transponder, some broadcast it on all transponders. In all cases, the bitrate is quite low, so it can take a bit of time before it's read.
Storage is slightly different. In a PLi Enigma1 image, EPG was stored in a SQLite database, which was persistent data. In Enigma2, EPG is stored in memory which is not persistent. If you properly shutdown or restart Enigma2, the EPG is temporarily stored in a file, which gets read back into memory if Enigma2 starts again.
If yu want to make sure your EIT EPG stays loaded, don't cut the power of your box without a proper shutdown, and use the EPG refresh plugin to zap to the EPG transponders at night to refresh your EPG and prevent those gaps...
