Rytec Virgin UK EPG incorrect/duplications

catlover's Photo catlover 17 Aug 2017

Hello, I wanted to point out 2 problems.

The first being that Rytec Virgin UK EPG info is duplicated as shown below, on several channels like Sky1 HD and Syfy HD, Fox HD, etc.

In most cases it therefore takes more space than necessary and ends up looking a little convoluted and messy. Would be amazing if this was "cleaned up".

The second issue is, the Sky Events channel n Rytec Virgin UK EPG (it's the equivalent of Sky Sports Box Office on satellite) has EPG info from another channel, appears to be in Welsh or something.

Thank you.

Indeed.

[Science Fiction] Frame of Mind (Season 6, Episode 21 of 26) [8.2] . [Science Fiction] (Season 6, Episode 21 of 26) [8.2]
Riker finds himself cast as an inmate of a mental asylum in one of Dr Crusher's plays. However, he soon finds fantasy and reality blurring into one. Sci-fi adventure, starring Jonathan Frakes. Science Fiction

The grabber needs maintenance.

This is probably due to a double assignment.  However in order to find it, I need the service ref.

Where do I find the service ref for a cable channel? I have attached a photo here... I started a thread about it already however but since you asked I'm uploading here just in case.

Do you mean I have to run something? Or this is something you plan to do?

It should be fixed by now.

You have to do nothing at the moment, both problems have to be fixed by me.  And I have done so.

The import of this morning should be OK.

If it is not, first restart you receiver, and reimport again before you report it is not OK.  (That way I am sure the new channels file is being loaded.)

Well, If nobody tells me this, I cannot correct it.  I do not have Virgin cable (it is impossible for me).  The same for a bunch of sats I do not have access to.  And for the sats I have it is impossible for to check every channel.  Mostly because there are too many.  Also I do not have a subscription to most of them.

I am totally at the mercy of people giving me the correct information.

If it is a simple problem (like the one above) this is mostly fixed the same day, so the next update will them be correct.

In more complicated matters it could take a bit longer.

I did not answer this question.  But it looks like you found it.

The are many different ways to find the service ref.  The easiest is with the webif.  Tune in to the channel and click in the webif on Current Channel.

Another easy method is also in the webif.  Right click on the streambutton for the channel and select Copy Link.

Now paste this in text file, and lift the service ref out of the URL

Thanks! EPG looks perfect now.I have a question. Why is virgin EPG 5 days for most channels? Not 7? I was just curious, as the "official" box has 14day guide. I am guessing the source is completely different?

I have used webif for years and never realised this. I oftentake a lng time to find the serv ref using other methods, this will save me a lot of time. Lotta info on this page :)

We are aiming to get for every channel 5 days worth of EPG.  But you should have at least 6 days.  If you have only 5 days, you are importing too early and get systematically yesterday's file.

Set you automatic update after 9h00 in the morning.  This way the new files will be downloaded.

If you never watch TV in the morning, you may set the import around lunch time, so if there are any corrections in the morning, you will get those as well.

I spotted some more minor duplications. Not a big deal but I thought I'd upload.

Also, some shows that are sci-fi are listed as adventure?

What you spotted here I cannot do much about it.

This is all info which comes from the webpage.

In this case, the category is included in the main text of the shows description.  We tried to get it out and include it in a category tag.

I agree it should be removed from the description then.  I will see if I can edit the grabber to account for this.  I will not regrab everything though.  So for the next week you will still see these.

That's great, thanks. I also did what you suggested and set epg dload after 9am.

Is it just once a day at 9am you update the source? Or every 6 hours or something?

Out of curiosity, which webpage do you grab from?

I update just once a day.
Forgive me if I do not publish which website I grab from. But it are fairly common ones.

Hi,

Personally I go in the Webif and use the Screenshot feature, then I right click on the image and select: save image as... and I just copy the proposed image name without really saving it.

It looks perfect now but 1 tiny thing is bothering me. It's nothing at all really but I guess I am a perfectionist. The missing "full stop", (punctuation).

Ah, so that's the source! (one of them anyway lol).

I guess I assumed you can automatically add/remove things based on the removal of the double descriptions.

Thanks.
