Good morning.

I recently bought the Vu Zero 4k and tested some images.

The first was OpenSPA which included the automount for all pluggable usb (hdd or usb stick). How to automatically mount the drive plugged to appear the "movie" folder /media/hdd? Now, using OpenPLi 6.1, I need create the symlink: name: HDD and target: /media/stick_4GB for all devices. I need the same way as the OpenSPA (Satvenus Team Backup_Vu+Zero 4k_OpenSpa_7.2.006._2018.03.19.by @dragec11). Any plugin or fstab edit?

Thanks

Frank

OpenPLi doesn't care where a device is mounted, the name "hdd" is meaningless. So you don't need anything.

If you insist, simply label your device "hdd", and it would be mounted by that name.

Ok, but the only way to be able to backup the image is with backupsuite through the mounted hdd. So I need to rename the (all) device at all times.

Place the file "backupstick" in the root of your device, and Backupsuite will find it, no matter where it is mounted.

Sorry, I did my first tests and now again using this image: "openspa-7.2.007-vuzero4k backup by @mika", not this "Satvenus Team Backup_Vu+Zero 4k_OpenSpa_7.2.006._2018.03.19.by @dragec11" as I had said. This Satvenus backup don't mount too.

See when I plug my usb stick (automount all usb devices):

Attached File  BEFORE, AFTER.png   121.45KB   4 downloads

fstab:

rootfs            /        auto        defaults                1  1
proc            /proc        proc        defaults                0  0
devpts            /dev/pts    devpts        mode=0620,gid=5                0  0
usbdevfs        /proc/bus/usb    usbdevfs    noauto                    0  0
tmpfs            /var/volatile    tmpfs        defaults                0  0

OpenPLi I need mount all devices manually. I saw this difference of not automount as in OpenSPA by mika.

The difference is (auto):

/dev/sda1            /media/hdd

I don't understand this, OpenPLi mounts any USB device plugged in automatically. But it will mount on /media/usb (as it is an USB device), and not on /media/hdd, unless you have labelled the device.

Well, as I already wrote,  with OpenPLi you have two options:

  • use the device whereever de image decides to mount it
  • label the device, so it is mounted at /media/<label>

Using any other method is a bad idea, since those depends on the device name, and you can not guaranteee that is always the same. It can be sda one day, sdb the next, depending on what else you have plugged in. Which is why we don't use those methods.

Specifically for backupsuite, that either uses /hdd (hardcoded, which is a bad idea to begin with), or any mount in /media that contains the file "backupstick". So I class that as a design error in backupsuite.

Since the device only has 1 USB, I always see it as sda1, so I just edited fstab and it works fine for all devices (usb stick or hdd)

/dev/sda1            /media/hdd           auto       defaults              0  0

Thank you.

@frankviana

If you would like to use a fstab entry, it is better to use UUID instead of /dev/sdx, because it work every time and depends not an the /dev/sda sdb sdc etc.

You can see the UUID of your hdd with the command

blkid

the result is similar to

/dev/sda1: UUID="684f1540-67bf-485e-88dd-97450952b70f" TYPE="ext4"

Then use instead of

/dev/sda1  /media/hdd

UUID=684f1540-67bf-485e-88dd-97450952b70f   /media/hdd

But as WanWizard said you can also use a HDD label to mount the hdd to the right place

One additional info to UUID

if you make a new HDD initialize (making a new filesystem) than the UUID value is new and you must change the UUID entry in fstab

Ok. I need add all UUID for my devices...

But, first, I need to know why @mika image the automount work fine, for all plugged devices (all change to /hdd). Any file or configuration?

Thank you again.

From my Point of view openpli use automount for Network devices and fstab or the lable mode for the local devices. If you use fstab then include all local devices with UUID

Receiver:2 x Uno4k SE (PLI 7.3 rel), 1 x ET9200 (PLI 4.0), NAS: 2 x QNAP 410, TV: LG 65C8llla, LG 47LB570V, LG 42LM615S, Sound: Yamaha RX-v663, Teufel System 5 THX
