HDMI color space 6.2

's foto droland 8 jun 2018

I tried to set hdmi color space to rbg (as I use the pc). (The pc and tv currently set for RGB 4:4:4.)
The avr signal info always shows YCbCr 4:4:4. I have set HDMI color space to different values and restart the box, but the avr always says the input signal is YCbCr 4:4:4. So it looks like it has no effect.
The box is Vu+ Solo2 and 6.2 release 05th of Jun.

Any similar experience?

I don't think the VU+ 2gen MIPS receivers support any other HDMI colour space than YCbCr 4:4:4.

I don't see any advantage to change that anyway.

Hi, with telnet you can look for yourself what colorspace_choices offer you. It is somewhere in /proc/stb I think. ciao

Under System/AV settings menu I can set 4:2:0, 4:4:2, 4:4:4, RGB, auto.... But it looks like it does not work.

I think it should be disabled or removed from settings if it is not supported by hardware or it should be implemented (if it possible)....

Hi,

Go with telnet or FTP into:

/proc/stb/avs/0/

There you will (perhaps) have files:

colorformat

colorformat_choices

There are also files in /proc/stb/video/

And check the content of them.

The drivers do not always correctly advertise the hardware's capabilities.

All files are empty. Their sizes are 0.

I can override the colorformat to rgb but it has no effect.

Why do not you see advantage it? If TV cannot detect automatically black level and it is calibrated for full rgb of PC, the set top box color will be hazy, lifeless.

I never said the TV cannot detect it. It's nicely negotiated between STB and TV. If both agree on YCbCr 4:4:4 there is no problem? Never before someone has complained about the HDMI colour space being incorrect, simply because it's not incorrect. So I still don't understand what you want.

I know. I said. The color space is not incorrect, but cannot change.

As I wrote... There is an isf calibrated TV. It was calibrated with full rgb color space with low black level from pc. The contrast, brigthness are set for rgb... The YCbCr will not be displayed correctly (hazy, lifeless). So it also would be good to change color space of stb to rbg (in accordance with PC)....

I can belive anybody  had not problem. The most people cannot see if the picture is not good, Usually they use it too saturated... and change contrast, brigtness, backlight level...
I just tried to use rgb color space because there is available setting to change it in the menu (but does not work on VU+ Solo2). So that is why I have created this topic.

Some of the UHD receivers can work in RGB mode, but the Duo2 definitely not.

's foto droland 8 jun 2018

I am not affected by those.I have an Solo2 momently.

The Solo2 is even older, it became before the Duo2.

Only the UHD receivers have selectable colour space.
