I am staying out of this .....ask PR2 he has the h7, just seems strange when OpenPli supports multiboot directly on H7 -> Menu/setup/flash image

Don't mix up two different things. Some boxes have a built-in ability to flash multiple images. This is totally unrelated to OpenMultiboot.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Assume this is directed at me.
I am not mixing anything up, I understand the difference between the 2, perhaps some people don‘t .. see post #4.
I am confused as to why you would install the Openmultiboot plugin on a h7 receiver that has OpenPli multiboot as part of the image

No, that was a general remark.

There is no such thing as "OpenPLi Multiboot". The boxes in question (the list you fished out of the source) have a built-in ability, in the bootloader, to multiboot. They have multiple bootpartitions instead of just one, in which you can flash specially prepared multiboot images.

You would still need OpenMultiboot in case the image you want to install alongside OpenPLi doesn't have these specially prepared images. OpenMultiboot boots the image in the boot partition, then switches to a different image. That only works if those images are similar (which is why we have always been against multibooting), it's like booting Windows 7 then switch to the dll's of Windows 10. It is bound to fail at some point...

He wants to install OpenPli and OpenATV alongside each other ... both images include support for multiboot - they do not need this plugin.

You don’t need open multiboot on this box. This box supports full real multiboot up-to 4 images supported by the ui of openpli. You can put openatv as zip on an usb and install it via flashimage. And via the power menu you can reboot to another image

He took the comment in post 7 as being directed at him. After you clarified that it was not at him, misunderstandings/confusion/goading continued. Best someone takes the moral high ground and let the argument end. It takes two to argue, unless you are a special case where you argue with people when they agree with you! The best way to end and argument is in its silence.

Back on topic:

Why does PLI have separate multi-boot images? On the other teams, one image works as either main or "multi-boot" image depending on how you flash it.

I never looked inside them, they are different files because the BSP produces them, and we don't maintain the BSP's.

The main image formats all four inage slots... the other image is for multiboot that fills a selected slot... the multiboot image you cant’t flash via usb.. the main image you can... other images should have the same... likely the multiboot image is only downloadable via the ui on other images we offer then also via our server so you can also flash then offline via usb

On OpenVix, if you flash by USB, you flash the whole lot.

If you flash by Image Manager, which uses ofgwrite, you get to pick which slot to flash image onto.

You can delete images on individual partitions, apart from current one.

Coding has need done by Twol.
