Hi guys!

I've bought this decoder yesterday. I already knew that there was no support for it.

Is there any chance in the future to see a official OpenPLI for SF8008?  ;)

Thanks in advance for the reply!

We've been in discussion with Octagon for quite a while now. The ball is in their court, we're waiting for a working BSP so we can move on, but which they can't seem to produce.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

The Chinese developers seem to be to lazy to fix the BSP to our standard. And that has been reported to the reseller many months ago.

I prefer OpenPLi and use it on all my Vu+'s

But for my new SF8008, while waiting for an official OpenPLi release, I run the official OpenViX image which is the most similar to OpenPLi.

The most similar to OpenPli is SatdreamGR, which is openpli-based.

Anyway there isn't yet a stable SatDreamGr image for SF8008, only images under development...;)

Now I'm using OpenATV on sf8008, but I'm sure that OpenPLI would be the best choice...!

And after SatDreamGr, Open Vision ;)

Users report Open Vision is stable on sf8008 but you need to compile a fresh image from our sources as we didn't release new images yet.

So I believe this is not enough to make SF8008 supported by OpenPLI: https://github.com/zhtq/meta-octagon

Maybe, maybe not.

We require the BSP to come from the manufacturer, including full (developer) support, and not from some unknown third party. If that were the case, we could make it ourselfs.

If they can't create a BSP, they will not have the expertise to provide proper support, in which case we're not even interested.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

I posted that link because it was posted by the "Octagon support" member on their forum, where there is a thread about future OpenPLI support.

Hi Jojoz,

The last time I had contact with ‘Octagon’, by heart I’d say ‘somewhere at the end of February 2019’, they appeared not capable to create a proper BSP. And as this is our main demand. So the answer is ‘I wouldn’t count on it’. But never say ‘never’.

The plugin needs a newer openembedded then Openpli uses. So it will probably not work on Openpli.

It's a Chromium browser build for Debian but they renamed on whatever reason.

On Openatv I have tried it on HD60 and Multibox and with some small adjustments it's working fine as well.

@Littlesat - as much their Marketing drives me up the wall, this is the best supported box (in my opinion) in the market - with continuous development and addition of features (how often do you hear that - usually its deliver, fix anything that doesn‘t cost money and move on)

- this popularity has nothing to do with Netflix.

They are often good at promoting add ons that have nothing to do with them (which is why I hate their Marketing) but overall a super 4K receiver.

....... and they obviously manage to do it without OpenPli.
