How to change the access level of some menu entries?

For instance I want "Flash image" and "Restart enigma in debug mode" to appear only in Expert mode.

add level="2" in the item of the menu.xml.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Restart in debug mode and flashimage is intended for every user... what is your idea behind it?

It's not for me, it's for a "normal" user, who needs things as simple as possible.

He's been asking me what is "Flash image" and I was wondering, how is this not an expert function?

On other hardware the upgrade software, which flashimage is actually a kind of is always there for any user... when you change the xml after an update it will revert!

Nope I’m just telling you when you adapt the xml it will revert after an upgrade... and flashimage is some kind of update image...
When you want to block thinks on the menu for users alternatively you can use parental control.

Please keep things simple.

Instead of arguing, maybe just reconsider appropriate access levels.

I tend to agree with Littlesat on this piont.

He's been asking me what is "Flash image" and I was wondering, how is this not an expert function?

So the problem is the fact that there is no description or explanation (which I can accept), possibly in combination with you not willing to say to this person "if you don't know what it is, don't touch it!"?

There is nothing a user can break with "Flash image" visible, the worst thing that can happen is the user installing a new image without making a backup, so the new image boots without config.

If that is a problem, there are a lot of other options in the image that are, in one way or another, destructive.

Well, we could really consider to move it to different level. For a total newbie it's maybe not the best idea use flash online.

Then intermediate and not expert, most owners of a box will want to flash, eventually.

Having said that, I maintain a few boxes for absolute n00bs as well (for example, my 80-year old parents), and I can't say I have to protect them from accidentally flashing a box.

This is more a problem for people that want to start fiddling with it, even though they've been told not too... ;) These people you can't stop with a level change, they will quickly find how to change the level...

I also have grandparents using et5000 for a few years now. Actually they have no problems. I taught them to avoid menu system. Press exit asap when you see some menu :)

Yup, same advice here: press Exit and keep pressing it until all screens are gone and you see only TV again. ;)

That was why I said enable parental control... you can protect the complete setup system with that... better than level codes... or use the change/order menu option
(Enable it then blue in a menu). There you can reorder menu lists or hide them via the ui and it is remembered via the auto backup. Already two alternatives mentioned.
