Hello,

 

I have a zgemma h7s with latest openpli 7.3 of december.

 

I am trying to take out 10 streams of fta services from same transponder, to a PC same subnet. Between streams are hd and sd ones

But after fifth stream established begins the problem. One or two of firsts streams go offline/online, web accessing is quite impossible, the stb responds with delay to remote, but I can have ssh access. After several hours, the box is blocked too

The cpu is 0% busy, very few of RAM used, flash have much space too.

The ethernet is linked 1G to the router, where the traffic is far away from hardware limit. After enabled debug, a line prevails in logs:

For my surprise, this stb, for this purpose, is manifesting worse performance that a very old zgemma star s stb with same openpli version, with 100m ethernet, less RAM, much slower cpu soft float etc etc

 

Can anyone give me any information ?

Can I do something in configurations ?

Is reached any limit not shown in what I checked ?

Hi,

 

The STB network card and bus are not as performant as a PC so indeed even if the interface claims to support Gigabit you will never get the full network bandwidth available from your STB.

Not only the hardware isn't all that (the PHY is part of the SoC, not a dedicated network chip as you find in PC's), the driver software is also very basic.

 

One of the biggest issues is that it doesn't support scatter/gather, which means it can only allocate memory for buffers if the memory is available in one continues block. The more memory gets fragmented, the bigger this problem becomes.

 

If you want to test network throughput, the ipref3 tool is in the feed (needs another device in the network with also ipref3 installed (see https://iperf.fr/iperf-doc.php).

when I copy files with TotalCommander on H7 it says 30MB/s, not more and not continuously, rather less

sorry 30MBytes/s, 30x8=240MBits/s copying files from the box external USB hard disk to my PC over LAN, didn´t test iperf

Changes are the USB disk is the limiting factor there...

My Streams max may go at 50Mbs.

May be any restriction in enigma2 ?

What player does use enigma2 for streaming?

Can I use ffmpeg or gstreamer?

gstreamer and ffmpeg are not used if it’s a normal dvb channel that you stream.

Is it HD or UHD channel? Is there a difference if you stream a SD channel?

And why do you want to stream 10 channels from the same transponder at the same time?

But afaik there is no limitation in e2. But I don’t know exactly.
Do you have a harddisk in the box? Can you record the channel 10 times without issues?
And create a debug log. Maybe something is visible in the log.
Xtrend ET-9200, ET-8000, ET-10000, OpenPliPC on Ubuntu 12.04
