Solid State Disk (SSD)

Has anyone used a solid state disk (ssd) inside a dreambox? WHat is your opinion about that?

why would you want to use an ssd in a dreambox? ssd's are best suited for many small random-read/write operations (laptops, mail/database-servers), the opposite of what is important for a dreambox. also the 'reliable' ssd's (slc) are still expensive and provide little storage space, the cheaper ones are less reliable and are still expensive compared to a traditional harddisk.

if you use a 4200 or 5400rpm laptop drive you will do ok in terms of heat and noise. the extra costs of an ssd are not worth it considering the amount of GB's you will get.

yes for a dm600 4200rpm should be enough and also low-noise/heat, for a dual-tuner or hd-box it might be better to get a 5400rpm just in case.
