Why? You have this preview thing here so you can judge the look and feel, well, at least the look Attached File  skin-preview.jpg   109.76KB   3 downloads

Or just install the skin. Installation and GUI reboot takes almost no time. If you don't like it, remove it afterwards.

This only applies for build-in skins.. I think he wants a preview of all possible skins… Impossible task since skins use different renderers…

The preview in my screenshot isn't a complete rendered skin, it's just a pixmap (prev.png). Installable skins could show such a preview (screenshot by the skin author) in the plugin browser.

By the way, why doesn't OpenPLi show previews in the plugin browser? I've seen other images that do.

Not every skin author has included a preview image.

Because nobody has made it?

Besides that, to be able to find the preview image (if it exists), and show it in the plugin list, you need to:

  • download every ipk, unpack it, check if the image exists, and pull it out of the tarball
  • or do this server side and have the plugin browser download images
  • or include the images in the base image and have them local

First two will be slow, the last one introduces unwanted bloat.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Not every skin author has included a preview image.

All skins on the NB feed have a preview. Most (non-skin) plugins don't have one. So maybe do it for skins only?

Besides that, to be able to find the preview image (if it exists), and show it in the plugin list, you need to:

  • download every ipk, unpack it, check if the image exists, and pull it out of the tarball
  • or do this server side and have the plugin browser download images
  • or include the images in the base image and have them local

HDMU uses the second option, and they use jpg for smaller files.

First two will be slow

Not noticeable with the second option on modern internet. The images are ~15k each, and they could be downloaded lazily, and only if the selection remains on the same option for, say, 0.3 seconds.
