Hello, I wanted to ask the opinion of the creators of openpli images, whom I thank for their work, very good images that work perfectly well... My question is, will they stay in python 3.9??? Which I find good, many plugins work without problem...
Because some languages say that it is essential to upgrade to python 3.12????? Is this true, thank you and good luck....

The Python version is dictated by the OE version we use for a particular image. OpenPLi 9.x is using Yocto Hardknott (OE 3.3), which uses Python 3.9.

OpenPLi 10 will be based on Yocto Scarthgap (OE 5.0), which uses at the moment Python 3.12.4.

As to what is "essential", if there is no specific reason given for it, ignore what you read, there always people getting a hard-on by every new version, without reason. Every version, old and new, contain fixes for old bugs, and introduces new ones, so that is not a valid reason to upgrade.

Also, Python 3.12 is much bigger than 3.9, so OpenPLi 10 will no longer run on first generation boxes (those with 128MB flash or small maximum flash size). Like a famous footballer once said: "every upside has its downside".

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Going to be a while, there are major changes on all sort of levels, which require lots of work, and we don't have enough people available who can work on it.

We're currently still at the stage where not all images build, boot, or run...

You're barking up the wrong tree.

Plugin developers should make sure their plugins are maintained, the problem is most are made once, released on some kind of forum, and abandoned as soon as they are released.

Which is why we don't provide any support for 3rd-party stuff.

You can't tell Micosoft to stop releasing new Windows versions because some application maker can't be bothered to keep its product current?

Yes, you are absolutely right, but it is true that it is complicated for ordinary users....
Thank you for all these explanations my friend....
