After editing the recordings to remove commercial advertisements, during playback I systematically have a brief black screen that appears after each cut.

I have had this anomaly for a few months. Before, it worked flawlessly.

What is causing this black screen ?

I'm with a Vu+ Duo 4K SE and OpenPli 9 up to date.

Thanks for any advice.

It is normal for some channels that there is a black frame at the start and at the end of every commercial block.

Cutting also never happens exactly where you would want it, it needs an MPEG I-frame, not P or B frames. How many I frames there are, and at which interval, depends on the compressors used by the channel, i.e. how compressed the video is. So maybe that changed?

How long is "brief"? If it is longer than "a flash on screen", something else is the matter...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

I don't remember having black screens before or after an outage.

I write 'brief', it's certainly less than a second.

I know of no other reason. The cut editor searches for the first I-frame after the cut point, and cuts until the first I-frame after the second cut point, and removes the section in between.

Where I-frames are in the stream depends on the method and equipment (and the configuration of that equipment) of compression.

This is why for example recorded streams are so difficult to cut, they are often so compressed that there are many seconds, sometimes even minutes, between two I-frames.

I'm coming back to this subject for which I already asked a few weeks ago.

On a Vu+ Duo 4K SE with Openpli 9, when I remove an ad from a recording, I get a black screen or a frozen image without sound a few seconds later.

VanWizard explained to me that this could be normal. I continued with this 'anomaly'.

Since then, I installed OpenATV in multiboot on a Mutant HD51 and noticed that I had never seen this failure.

My problem is that this image does not suit me at all and I have difficulty using it with the Mutant remote control and/or with my Logitech Elite universal remote control.

Will the version of Openpli 9.1 which has just been released give me the same result ?

I never said something freezing was normal.

I only said that often commercials have a leading and/or trailing black frame which can be visible after cutting. I never said they may not be other causes, just that I don't know of any, I hardly ever use the cutlist editor.

I don't understand.

It's always the same TV series that air at the same time but I 'cut' them only the following day

I meant whether you have tried removing the ads from the same file in the same place on HD51 under PLi and under OpenATV, and whether it will be different.

You are comparing two different boxes with different controllers.

Btw - I prefer editing on the VS1500 (oem HD51) rather than on the VuDuo4K, because it always feels a bit strange on the Vu.

I'm going to do it tomorrow morning because I'm currently recording them on both (Vu+ and HD51)

I just removed the ads in both series on the Vu+ duo 4K SE.

We just watched the first one and no black screen and/or freeze frame without sound for a few seconds appeared.

These are the first recordings I made since installing version 9.1

To be continued.....
