How do you turn off/on the tuner? When you do it the cold way than indeed what you describe could happen.

I don't understand what you means but:

- In OpenPLi if you change something in the channel list you need to put the STB into standby before turn it off. Otherwise your changes will not be saved.

- By default OpenPLi always restart on the last channel you watch, if you want it to always start on the same channel, in the channel list go on the channel press Menu button and select define as startup service. Then we you start the STB you will always get the same channel.

Hi.

As @Pr2 writes, all Enigma2 changes you made last will be saved safely.

However, if you press the mains switch at the back to turn off the set top box from electricity, the settings do not have to be saved in Enigma2 (it depends on the plugin or Enigma2 whether it saves the setting as "force" with every change or whether it only happens during standby mode and when rebooting the set top box). Rebooting should also help, as well as standby - the settings will be saved from the RAM memory to the internal disk (files in the folder: /etc/enigma2).

If you want to verify that this is not the fault of some plugin that always returns everything to its original state after booting, delete or edit the list manually. So, as first, for sure, stop the Enigma2, using the terminal, with the command:

init 4

(this step is not necessary, but just to be sure, you can do it for testing)

Then edit the userbouquet files (channel lists) as you need. Use, for example, E-Channelizer or DreamboxEdit (the FTP connection will still work and you can do it with it).

Then just start Enigma2 again and check how the channel list looks like.

Finally, to be sure, also reboot the device (via MENU in OpenPLi !!! not by turning off the set-top box from the mains + turning it on). After rebooting, check the status of the channel list again.

Maybe we should consider save settings once a day (at the moment just before the backup is made)…

I save the file "/etc/enigma2/settings" in my plugin whenever the user exits the plugin. Just to be sure :-).

https://github.com/s.../plugin.py#L416

And so that would also be an easy help, how to save the settings file without leaving Enigma2 :-D.

Maybe it's barbaric... :-) ...to keep saving to hard when exiting my plugin, the Enigma2 settings, but then again, the plugin settings don't change that often. So it does not interfere at all in terms of preserving the life of the flash drive according to the number of possible rewrites of the memory cells.

As for a possible backup, yes, it is necessary to save the settings file before starting the backup. However, the questioner @piplan1966 did not mention anything about backup at all. He only mentioned turning off and on the set-top box. We still don't know what style he meant by turning off and on the set-top box.

I'm not sure how userbouquest processes Enigma2 GUI - OpenPLi files. Whether these userbouquet files are saved immediately on the disk or only when switched to standby.

If it was a hard shutdown with the mains switch on the set-top box, then of course it is also possible that the userbouquet files were not saved (as mentioned earlier in the discussion).

However, it can also be verified through the terminal - after making changes in the userbouquet files / channel lists. It is possible to verify this using a command such as ls -al /etc/enigma2 and see the time in the directory listing, what is the time of file changes ? Is it current ?

You can remove a channel from the all channels list, but it is pointless, as soon as you zap to that transponder, the background scan will add it back to the list.

If you mean this channel comes on when you switch on the box, it was either the last channel you watched when you switched the box off, or it is set as startup channel.

If you're copy and pasting, you're copying HTML styling too, if you're not careful.

You can avoid this by switching off BBCode mode (the little switch icon top left of the message editor, pasting your text in, and then switching it back on again.

So, did what @WanWizard wrote help ? Enigma2 cannot automatically add one more channel to the channel list ! Uhm...

I recommend using DreamboxEdit (application for PC) to edit the channel list in your Enigma2, as I already wrote. If the PC is in the same LAN as your set-top box, connect to the set-top box with this DreamboxEdit app and edit the channels as needed. Then upload the channels again to the set-top box. They are automatically saved and refreshed even in the set-top box.

Also... you can verify it... simply by changing the currently watched channel. And only then you use the reboot of the set-top box. This last watched channel should be reopened after rebooting. Or you can try to delete at least 2 channels that you don't watch for testing.

Btw, you still don't have all the picons (channel logos) there. Install picons as a feed package for your 105.5E satellite. I hope that there are also these picons on the OpenPLi feed. If not, find another source and then upload them to the folder "/picon" or to the folder "/usr/share/enigma2/picon" - using an FTP connection to the set-top box. Alternatively, try using a "Picons Updater" plugin that supports picons for the 105.5E satellite.
