Lost all satellites when i try and use my own setting using dreambox edit, and i have to install firmware again to restore it. I am using (openpli-9.0-release-dm8000-20241104.nfi) on my dreambox 8000. I have tried restoring the firmware to default in the menu but this doesn't restore the satellites in the satellite menu it just says LNB66 can someone please explain why this is happening and how to fix it?

All satellites? Or just the one that was configured? And where did you lose it?
What exactly did you do in dreamboxedit? Removed "unused" satellites? Are you using a channel list of satellites.xml from an external source?
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

The setting i put in was my own which usually work ok but if i alter the satellite.xml file to update it to new transponders and when i save it the box throwns up a screen saying it has to reboot and when it has rebooted i have nothing displayed so i look in the satellite menu and it says usual but no satellites can be selected cause there not there anymore

That suggests the box crashed because the xml you put wasn't valid, and was wiped after the reboot?
you can restore the correct one the box by running this on the commandline:
opkg install tuxbox-common --force-reinstall
or by removing it and reinstalling it from the software manager, under advanced, package management.
In general, never fiddle with the satellites.xml, use the one we supply, it is updated on a weekly basis for all official images. If you need the latest changes and can't wait, download it from here: https://github.com/O.../satellites.xml (and click the download icon), it is updated daily.
Also, it is very dangerous to replace the xml with an altered one, as it works using relative positions, i.e. your LNB is not configured for "satellite X", but for "the x-th satellite defined in the XML". Remove satellites, or change the order, and watch the problems unfold...

I use my own because there are some transponders missing on a few satellites that are in the firmware, and also the way the satellite.xml structure is my own is structured with the east to west satellites but the one in the firmware is structured the other way going from west to east. Also what is that command "opkg install tuxbox-common --force-reinstall" and how do i use it?

Which transponders are missing? Which satellite? Have you reported those to Lyngsat and KingOfSat ?
That command is a commandline command. If you don't know that, I suggest you don't use it, but use the software manager. Under advanced, packet management, find "tuxbox-common", remove it, and install it again.
btw: if your actions caused a broken xml to be placed in /etc/enigma2 ( which dreamboxedit may do ), replaying the system xml won't fix things.
If might be the best option to do a factory reset, which will delete all your changed files. Then use dreamboxedit to upload you custom files, and only then reconfigure your tuners, to make sure it uses your custom xml.

There are multiple transponders on different satellites that have been updated, but if i use my own then i can receive the channel and it saves me loads of time instead of inputting them in separately, take for instance 28.3e alot of the transponders have swapped about and some of the fec have changed too. I have tried doing a factory reset but that doesn't fix it and i have to reinstall the firmware all over again. I'm using dreambox edit 7.2.1.0.

28.2E (Astra 2) is my prime sat, and I can assure you, the xml is correct and complete. I make my own bouquets and I scan virtually ever other day for updates.
The latest changes are from 21/11 (shuffling the Channel 4 transponders) and are were made available in the satellites.xml generated on the 21st.
So, again, what exactly is missing?
I have tried doing a factory reset but that doesn't fix it and i have to reinstall the firmware all over again. I'm using dreambox edit 7.2.1.0.
The factory reset deletes everything in /etc/enigma2, which is where DBE should write its changes. I can't recall DBE being so bad it overwrote system files.
And there was no need to reinstall, you only needed to reinstall the tuxbox-common package, I explained to you how.

You said and i quote "The latest changes are from 21/11" but the latest firmware for my box is openpli-9.0-release-dm8000-20241118 which by my calculation is 3 days behind so my box will have the old satellite.xml not the up to date one do you see the irony, this is why i use my own satellite.xml file.

I also explained to you how you could install an update if you couldn't want to wait for the weekly build. We update the xml on a daily basis.
There is no way you create your own xml file, so you've got it from elsewhere. Chances are it isn't newer than the one we have, and if you can download one from unknown source, you can also download the correct one.
If you want to remain stubborn, fine, but don't come asking for help then, if you don't intend to use any of the advice given...

If you open your satellites.xml in chrome or edge, it doesn't show an error ?
