On the "About" screen, the HDMI-CEC address is always "not set" or even missing.

Can I kindly ask, if someone could check and commit this fix,

It's for always displaying the physical CEC address, regardless whether CEC features are enabled or not.

I know. But it's not helpfull that way.

CEC is always enabled. The wording in HDMI-CEC settings is misleading. It should be " Use CEC" not "Enabled".

No. CEC is enabled or disabled. Nope "is enabled always". E2 in most cases not using linux kelnel cec.

Maybe try the patch first. Then we can discuss, if there are any drawbacks.

"not set" means "a fixed address is not set", it doesn't mean CEC is disabled.

If you disable CEC, the entire section in About disappears.

I never understood why that is there, as the information is absolutely pointless for users, the CEC address is assigned hardcoded, based on the port numbers of CEC switches on the bus.
Same is true for fixing addresses, as they are assigned hardcoded, you can't change them, and they will never change.

Quite the contrary, in fact it's very usefull when setting up or troubleshooting HDMI-CEC.

You'll be able to find out

- what the default address of the Box is at startup (without HDMI connected)
- does the address get updated when the Box is connected to the TV?
- does the TV send the address even if in standby/deep-standby?
- does the address instantly get updated when the Box is connected to another HDMI input?
- etc.

CEC adresses are issued by the HDMI CEC switch (in the TV or the amp), without anything connected to HDMI, this value is undefined and pointless.

The rest is debugging for advanced users, for which you can use the HDMI test plugin. Normal end users, which is 99.9% of all OpenPLi users (not the 0.1% on this forum), have no clue what CEC is, let along know what to do with it.

Following your chain of reasoning, most of the information displayed there is "useless".

But seriously, I can see no reason why the CEC information should not be made available.

Especially when it comes with absolutely no disadvantages.

Those who don't want it, can always ignore it. But those who find it usefull should not be deprived.

I don't disagree with that ;).

Most techies have problems trying to put themselfs in the seat of an average end user, and make things from their perspective. Enigma is full of "geek anomolies" that only confuse normal users.

But hey, thats just me... :)

Some want Tons of information. You see other imagrs have even multiple pages is information. Somehow it gets there but I also think this could be removed. Info only has added value where you set HDMI-cec. I agree this had a geek factor

And it is also displayed there only if CEC is configured...

The only geek issue I see, is allowing to manually set the HDMI address. It's against the specificaton and only causes problems with 0 added value.

I have less of an issue with special "geek pages", keeping that stuff away from ordinary users is a good thing. Like the troubleshoot pages in About, nicely hidden from end-users.

Exactly.
