Can AutoBackup handle multiple backups?

It has the option "Save previous backup". But can the previous backup be restored?

Afaik not.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

I have created a backup to a network location (NAS) using the yellow button (Manual).

But when I try to restore it, I am getting "No settings backup found".

I checked the backup location, the files are there. Why can't they be found?

No idea, just tried it here, and it restores fine.

I assume you tried the restore after checking the network mount is present and readable?

This is where the message comes from: https://github.com/E...ugin/ui.py#L238

Apparently it tries to restore from the wrong location.

It's created the backup in folder /media/net/tvrec/backup

For restoring it's looking in /media/net/backup

BTW: I'm using the python3 version of the plugin.

restore from network drive is not recommended at all.... I strongly advise to use an USB stick or a local HDD....

Doing it on a 'mount' means chicken/egg issue... you need to restore the mounts before you can reach the backup. Not very user friendly that way!

Basically you're right. I usually use a USB stick. But apparently AutoBackup cannot handle multiple backups.

To be able to switch different Enigma setups, I wanted to set up an additional backup location. That's when the problem surfaced.

There must be a bug in composing the restore path.

Why should a backup allow for more? It’s a backup of settings for potential restoration. If you need to keep multiple settings over time, you can enable "save previous backup" (or whatever it’s called) — you’ll have an archive each time, which you can manually unpack into "backup" and restore when needed.

We can discuss again a couple of days about "why do you want this and why don't you do that" and "why do you want a simple solution when a complicated one is available".

Or we can fix the bug...

I do not see bug in this, that it using only one backup.  You're starting to develop theories about what it should be able to do, etc. I already told you how you can have multiple backups.

Maybe, but not really relevant. You can make a backup to a network mount, and you can do a manual restore from a network mount. It is implemented, therefore it should work.

I can't confirm that, I had no issue restoring from a NAS mount. Obviously, you have to make sure you select the correct location as backup target.

A possible challenge is multiboot environments. If you have a multiboot box with 8.3, 9.0 and develop installed, they will overwrite each other backups.

But if that is the problem, the solution isn't multiple locations, the solution is to make autobackup multiboot aware, so each slot can make a backup and restore a backup without influencing the backup from other slots.

@WanWizard, I was sure, you would get the hint. Still not?

Anyway, the plugin is now restoring from network drives also.
