changing the font of letters. and no possibility to set the number of channels on one page. it was good in the previous version. no need to change. 12 channels on one page now I have no way to do it. the font of letters was bad, it was good, it was changed for the wrong format. please restore the possibility of the number of programs on one page, there were from 5-40 programs, you could set the number of programs. it also enlarged the letters. people who have a problem - eyes. now I can't see anything

These options have a separate menu now. Press twice the MENU button on the channel selection screen.

Why change it? The previous version was fine. Look for new versions of settings. Double click . Why change it. It was ok. Changing does not always bring a good result.

As i said in the other post... The settings screen was redesigned. That settings are channel list related so the correct place is in channel list config screen. The former place was wrong imho.

Many people don't know about the capabilities of the menu button has contextual menu, if now hide settings with a double menu press then it will make things even more complicated.

I think that the double menu press should still have the corresponding screen in the Parameters screen, setup should not be hidden behind secret key press that only initiated people knows.

 

When I setup a box I went through the Parameters screen and set it up like I want, so all the setup should remains into parameters.  Having a contextual double menu can be useful has shortcut but both must be possible.

It is not hidden at all... actually it is improved as the total list of the settings reduced.... everything that belongs the the channellist is now 'behind' the channel list. Menu was always an option in the channellist.

It is also in line with what we do elsewhere... like the Graphical EPG and the MovieList.. (Recording List)... there you always had a menu option for settings behind the context menu, where you could not find it on dual locations in the menu.

Of course when you were used to find it on the 'dual location' for behind in a menu and did not know before in the context menu there was an additional menu (short cut), I can imagine you can be kind of lost.....

Sorry to disagree reducing the number of settings in the Parameters screen is not an improvement. Having them better classified is an improvement.

When I setup a box from scratch I go into Parameters and setup every possible parameters like I'd like to, and it's easy.

 

Now I will need to start the channel list to set it up, then the GMEPG,etc... it is more confusing.

 

Who knows the double menu key?  Even the single menu key is not known by many end-users so the double one even less.

 

Better organised the Parameters screen is nice, having a contextual shortcut is nice but suppress it and force to start the Channel list or the GMEPG to configure it is not an improvement.

I'm afraid everybody knows and since today at least one more... The double menu key exists on those screens already for > 15 years... The ChannelSelection screen WAS the exception that a long list with two different 'targets' were accessible in two ways.

I'm 100% sure once you know it you do not need to search for it anymore.... and it is still a shortcut for all the stuff that is channellist related.... channellist->menu->menu vs. menu->setup->system->GUI settings->user interface...

Of course it is easy to add it there as e.g. menu->setup->system->GUI settings->channel list.... but having two entrances to the same is not really needed I suggest once you know you can reach it via channellist->menu->menu... and we do exactly the same as for other screens having a context menu...

I kind of agree with @Pr2. If you add it also in "menu->setup->system->GUI settings->channel list settings" you will achieve 100% satisfied users.

You have to be careful when discussing these things, it is important to know which audience you have in mind.

 

For advanced users, like yourselfs, it might be handier or quicker to have everything in one screen, in a very long list, everything thrown onto a single heap.

For end-users however, it is much more logical to find configuration items accesable from the thing they want to configure, in a context menu.

 

It shouldn't be hidden, if a menu key is active, it should be shown in the skin. And the popup menu then has a "settings" or "configuration" entry with the menu key as shortcut ( hence the 2 x menu ).

 

And with a properly designed config system, even both is possible.

 

In our (companys) web app framework, we have something similar. Every module defines and registers its own config item objects in a category list. The object contains everything, where to get the value from, how to validate it, how to save it, etc.

There is a general settings page, which lists all categories, and all items in them, so you have one page with all config items from the entire app. But every module can choose to display a page with only relevant categories in its menu system.

 

As every module can register a config item in any category, it is a very flexible system.

 

( when you read this, replace "web app framework" with Enigma, and "module" with plugin... )

My 2 cents...

And then add the same stuff for GMEPG, movie player etc. and also all the plugins that have own settings. (for plugins we need to rewrite a lot!!!!!)... when doing this I think it should be consequent. Under the line having the same settings on multiple places does not real add any value.

There is always resistant when something changed... The same 'issue' is the blue button because of the changes in the config screens where OK does now toggle, show all the selections in the selection list etc...

 

It is not hidden.... it was never hidden... menu was always an option in the context menus... it was always indicated that in the context menu's you can hit a second time menu to set some settings.... in channellist, graphical multi EPG, movielist etc... Maybe due to this 'split' to make a config screen less long it was noticed...

The problem in the channel list is that the menu (1 press) is too long for DarkOS skin so we need to scroll inside the menu.

So we you press Menu you need to go to the second page to see Menu -> Configuration

 

In GMEPG you don't have this problem since the menu is shorter you immediately saw the pressing again Menu will bring you to the Configuration screen.

Another thing that is strange in the channel selection Menu is that you defined shortcut for some popular entries but they are not in the numerical order and not on top of the list.

So I think it would be better to have the shortcut entries display in the "Hotkey" order since they are considered as mostly used.

Typically the 6 - Activate move is now in the second page too.

(Probably because I have TMDB Details and Seach IMDb in my contextual menu). 

Woudl be nice if the contextual menu can enlarge itself and use the multi-page as last ressources when it's not possible to display all the possible entries.

 

Or is there another secret feature that will allows me to reorder from the RCU the order of the entries in this menu?

 

We don't have this issue with the default skin where we still have room for other entries thanks to the PiG usage.
