I have a question: can you manually change the plugins to make them horizontal instead of vertical?

you mean the grid view like on OpenATV, at the moment not implemented on PLi, you may try the PluginsPanel, copy to Extensions, restart Enigma2, press Menu

I'm just curious why people install PLi if they want behavior like OpenATV...

It would need changes to eListbox and other areas. The possibility for horizontal layouts was added some time ago, but not grid.

I don't think you will see this in any image apart from ATV at any time in the near feature.

There isn't any benefit as well, other than a complicated cosmetic gimmick. Also, with a grid you loose the space to put the name and description of the plugin, so that needs to go elsewhere.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

That hacks a load of python system files. The only way to do it properly is in eListbox.

You do not need to change eListbox at all when you use the method as it is done with gmepg for example. But the question is, for the effort in coding does it really add any real value. You miss the description and it only adds real added value when you really have tons of plugins and all these plugins do really have their own icons etc… under the line ok when good implemented but this is again an example that needs relative big changes in the code, with risk of some parts on unexpected area needs adaptions as well… without any real added value beside it gives a kind of Netflix view.

actually it works pretty well, and I could add and make room for more widgets in pluginBrowser.py
other files just have the call.
Honestly users "want" these things, otherwise they wouldn't ask for them.

ATV does it in eListbox. Same as we do horizontal in eListbox. That way using grid is as simple as creating a TemplatedMultiContent same as now for vertical and horizontal.

But, anyway it is a lot of work for a display feature that doesn't offer any additional functionality to the image.

Developer resources are limited so we have to decide how to use our time productively to best please the users.

As a user, if you had to choose, would you rather have quality handling of IPTV and catchup services, or have you plugins displayed in a grid?

That's why there are several different Enigma2 images, so you really want this feature you need to use an image that offers it.

Sorry but as an end-user, I don't care to have the plugin in grid view since the plugin name will have to be truncated. I prefer to have a list view with the full plugin name.

and what would be the difference between a grid plugin and IPTV management?

I don't disagree with you about this, it's subjective. Everyone likes something different and that's right, we're not all the same.
I also approve of this choice.
However, I was referring to the fact that technically it's always the user who chooses, via the menu, whether to use the grid or the list. Nothing so difficult in my opinion
