I have just installed the current develop image in a multiboot slot on my OSmio4k+.
On the About screen it shows 25 Enigma (re)starts. How can this be, right after flashing the image?

The value of

config.misc.startCounter=

is part of the settingsfile (/etc/enigma2/settings) which will be restored.

So this is expected behavior.... When you restore settings the counter continues... even after a fresh flash...

But should be zero after a flash start/recovery.

I have never monitored this, it just tells me that I am probably crazy, considering how many times I've restarted each box due to development. But in my opinion, it should continue.
It's more or less just a statistical figure.

To be honest, I haven't really paid attention to it yet and on second thought I do think that the counter should continue to run after a reflash or whatever, it then indeed indicates the total number of restarts and now that I look at it,...indeed it indicates that I have also restarted the box a bizarre number of times, I must be crazy too ;)

Flashing is one function, restoring is another. To me, if you restore, that counts being restored is correct behaviour. The only way out of it is to make the count image specific. But then that introduces an issue of where some entries in the file called settings are redundant.

I had expected it to start from 0 after installing the image.

And if I decide to restore a backup after some time, I would not want the current value to be overwritten.

But I guess, to preserve the correct number, the value would have to be stored in a different location. (which is not included in the backup)

Maybe in a hidden config file, something like  /home/root/.settings
