We have added a test build of a new OpenEmbedded (OE) version, Scarthgap Yocto project to the downloads, this is a precursor to OpenPLi 10. Please note that these images are not suitable for daily use, but for those who dare to try a testbuild! For those who want to install this image, please let us know if there are any issues, thanks in advance from the team.

Hardware: Vu+ Uno 4K SE - Vu+ Duo 4K - Fuba 78 cm - Tripleblock LNB Quad 19.2/23.5/28.2 - DS918+
Software : OpenPLi - OSCam - Settings van Hans - Autotimer - EPGImport

Scarthgap is no longer built for old boxes with only 128MB flash. For old boxes with more flash space, we would like to know if they flash and boot.

The Octagon SF8008 does boot, but crashes due to a bug in the drivers that Octagon still needs to fix. If you want to try Scarthgap on an SF8008, you have to copy these drivers from the Uclan Ustym4KPro image:

root@sf8008:~# ls -l /media/usb/extra/
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root        962444 Jan  1  1970 hi-dvb.ko
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         98778 Jan  1  1970 hi_pmoc.ko
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         39069 Jan  1  1970 vtunerc.ko

which is the same box, but branded differently. Oddly enough, the driver developer for Uclan and Octagon are the same person, but appearently that doesn't guarantee the same working drivers...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

The screen does not display correctly in Octagon SF8008. This problem does not exist in Ustym4kPro which is almost identical receiver. You can "borrow" one of the hiko modules from the Ustym4kpro and fix the display problem in the sf8008.

Doing a fresh install using a receiver that connects using wireless, there is no option in the SetupWizard to activate wireless. You are told "Your receiver does not have an internet connection", then a dead end for internet setup.

What do you mean with "a receiver"?

I have an SF8008, an Ustym 4K Pro Ultimate and a VU+ Solo 4K running on Scarthgap here, all wirelessly connected, and none have an issue with wireless?

Yes. But it was too late to edit my post. My Apologies for needing Glasses.  And I do not agree with having to change all of those .ko modules either, but I may be wrong. Seems I have only been using a single module change for months which is:  hi_pmoc.ko

As for the wireless Internet, To replicate: Install Scarthgap image, then remove any wired Internet connection. Follow the setup wizard. You will be told you do not have an Internet connection, then there is nothing you can do about it. No provisions to setup a wireless Internet connection unless you exit the wizard and go through the regular menus. Try it and see if your results are the same. If they aren't the same, let me know what my setup error is.

:)

Ok, so the issue is the setup wizard, not functionality in general?

I don't have an issue with that at the moment, there is a redesign in the planning for Enigma networking, which is in preparation and will start as soon as we can promote scarthgap to develop.

Let's be clear: The Only Thing that does not work when setting up an image that I know about when using the setup wizard is wireless or wifi Internet.. If you are using the auto restore, then you will never see the problem. The problem exists only in the setup wizard. And then the only problem is when you are told your internet connection is not working, no options are given to correct it. You should at minimum be given the option to gracefully set your wireless Internet up in the setup wizard.

I think it's a faulty 'Soc_family' instead of 'Machin' in the Conf files

Based on what?

uClan uses recipes with MACHINE names in them,  Octagon uses SOC_FAMILY, so the recipes are correct. There are no MACHINE based driver recipes in the Octagon BSP.

The problem is that the drivers of Octagon don't contain the fixes needed, while those from uClan do, they are of a different date. The fact the SF8008 works correctly if you copy those three ko files over from the uClan proves that.

Interesting. I only copy one file and it works. I put the one file in plugin form for easier testing.

Surely there is a way to fix this besides Octagon? We may be waiting years for a solution from them.

The offending wrong versions are in https://github.com/O...les-hisi.inc#L9

And OE-A will run into this issue too, they use exactly the same driver version, it was the first thing I checked.

The Octagon drivers are from January 2024, the uClan ones from March. For Gigablue it is even worse, they still use the initial 2020 drivers for the Trio 4K (so also no support for the upgraded hardware).

Interesting. I only copy one file and it works. I put the one file in plugin form for easier testing.

Possible, but we don't know what changes are applied to the other ko drivers.

Yes, but we prefer Octagon to fix this so we have drivers with their support, instead of just copying something in and pray it doesn't break anything else.

We use the version that yocto provides. I don't see any pressing reason for a backport. Is there a pressing reason for doing so, given the fact nothing on the box requires ffmpeg?

The ffmpeg upgrade is part of "styhead", yocto 5.1, and we don't have another OE upgrade in the planning for now.

I had some problems with plugins and ended up building a symlink. It was done this way so it could easily be removed without having to remember what I did.

SUMMARY = "Python 2 to Python 3 symlink"
DESCRIPTION = "Creates a symbolic link from python to python3"
LICENSE = "MIT"
LIC_FILES_CHKSUM = "file://${COMMON_LICENSE_DIR}/MIT;md5=0835ade698e0bcf8506ecda2f7b4f302"

PV = "1.0"
PR = "r0"

ALLOW_EMPTY:${PN} = "1"

do_install() {
    install -d ${D}${bindir}
    ln -sf python3 ${D}${bindir}/python
}

FILES:${PN} = "${bindir}/python"

Don't know if that is anything PLi needs or not. Put it in the trash if you don't need the info...

It shouldn't be needed, it is a workaround for a bug elsewhere (which you then cover up so it will never be fixed).

Audiosync plugin crashes in SF8008. When it doesn't crash, it doesn't work.  The delay doesn't actually do anything.

The attached crash happened after pressing the remote menu button while in the plugin. Other key combinations may also give a crash.
