I just tested your 500HD Image, great thank you for yor work. I wundered about a new plugin named amBX, is it right that you can controll a Philips amBX StarterKit with it. I would like to see a video (youtube etc...) what is possible with this plugin. Im regarding to buy one of this StarterSets to get Ambilight-Feeling with my DM8000HD. After installing the plugin i have to plugin USB-Plug of the amBX and everything is working? Is there already a ipk Pakage of your Plugin?

Indeed, all that needs to be done is to plug an amBX kit into the USB port (which the 500hd does not have?) and start the plugin.

The plugin currently only works on the dm7025 and dm8000, so it's not for you yet. Support for other boxes is "on the way".

Just install the plugin from the plugin list (menu, plugins, download). No file fiddling required.

VU+ support is on the way but will take a lot longer, because it uses a totally different way of accessing the video buffer.

run "ipkg download enigma2-plugins-extensions-ambx" on an OpenPLi image and it will download the ipk. Do the same for its dependencies and you should be able to install them on other images.

It's probably not as good - the CPU but especially the GPU of the dreambox is much less powerful than a PC. It just looks at the video, calculates the average colors divided over 5 regions from left to right, and then uses this to control the lights. There's a bit of "fader" code to make the transition appear smoother.

The plugin typically processes about 3 frames per second (SD video).

You can also just set it to "color", which will just switch the lights on to one of a few select colors. This uses hardly any CPU.

It might work on the 800 and 500hd starting today, since I don't have such a box at home I cannot test that...

If you like to mess around, just look at the plugin code. You can quickly see how to control the lights and stuff, and you can even load and use the pyambx unit outside enigma2.

It should work on the 8000, 7025, 800 and 500hd now. I don't know how to get access to the VU+ videobuffer, so that one is still not working.

I get my ambx working now in your image if i install the plugin in a gemini or oozoon image their is a error message

cannot satisfy the following dependencies for enigma2-plugin-exetensions-ambx: python-pyambx

I also downloaded and install the python ambx package

installing this needs ambx package

installing the ambx package give another error:

Clearing state_want and sz´tate_flag for pkg=ambx (arch_priority=0 flag=16 want=2)
Nothing to be done
An error ocurred, return value: 4.
Collected errors:
Cannot find package ambx.
Check the spelling or perhaps run "ipkg update"

..............

It would be very nice to have a working ipk package incuding all dependencies.... MiLo its possible that you make a package and upload it here? Do you see a chance that you get it working on the vu duo?

The ambx package is platform-specific, there is one for each platform. You're probably trying to install the 7025 ambx lib on an 800 or so.

This is also the reason why i cannot create one "works for all" package: The ambx part (hardware and grabbing) is box specific.

Here a list of the neded dependencies :

ipkg download libusb

ipkg download ambx

ipkg download python-pyambx

ipkg download enigma2-plugin-extensions-ambx

my failure was that i downloaded the ambx package with a dm500hd.... now everything installs fine on a gemini 4.70 image on a dm8000 but dont work in gemini after reboot i cant controll the box and it tooks very long too load enigma... after a long time a tv picture is here and the plugin is working when i switch the channel the box seems to have a problem and you can not controll it.

You'll have to ask the Gemini folks for support, I'd be glad to help but Gemini's code is closed source.
