Probably, the difference is that his grabber is running in a separate process, and thus doesn't take enigma with it when it keels over. So that appears to be the "solution".

Is there any way to make this for our AmbX Plugin? Because i think most people would agree if enigma is still running, but the lights going out for some seconds.

I also agree, if it doesn't take down the rest I can use it again (now I can't because of recordings etc). Can you implement this also, or is it very difficult?

Ok, problem with timeshift seems to be solved, don't know why, but now it work, i only rebooted.
Do you got some favourit settings for the plugin? It look like that most color is blue?

And is there any way to set the brightness higher?

Yeah i know thats a lot of questions, but first priority should have a smooth running client :)

Now I do. :)

Aside the concept of keeping the grabbing/calculating outside of Engima2, the grabber code allowed incorrect offset calculation. Once I fixed that in my daemon, it never crashed again (runs for hours now). Prior, the daemon went from time to time (not related to anything ... just dropped dead after half an hour or so). It never really annoyed the users, because a watchdog script restarts the daemon right away. But one can't rest until such a bug is found, right? ;)

The very same "sanity check" could be applied to the amBX Plugin, where there are a few already.

I am not sure whether there are even more grabber bugs that can still crash the entire plugin/daemon, but we'll see.

BTW: I just fired up the 2nd stage of the grabber booster. My DM800 now is doing 30 fps @ 720x576i, 26 fps @ 1440x1080i and 20 fps @ 1920x1080i.

Care to tell us what the check is?

I'd be interested in DM8000 and VU+ results. On the 7025 the amBX plugin can run for many hours indeed, but on the 8000 it crashes like you described...

Sure!

Don't start memcpy'ing (xtmp,ytmp,...), when (adr2<adr), cuz this makes offset into negativ (offset=adr2-adr;) which seems to causes a runaway memcpy.

I think you just need to add this to the sanity checking as a disallowed option. Let me know if this fixes the issue of your plugin. It for sure did fix it in my daemon.

Added the check, but I killed my development machine this afternoon (put the kernel into the bootloader of the VU, oops) so I can't properly test it now...

I gather it's in the updates tomorrow? I'll test it then, if it works for over an hour the fix has done the trick ;)

Milo,

quick question for you: did you do anything special to support mkv and avi playing under the mediaplayer? I have reports that Atmolight does not always recognize the colors of mkv/avis. Not sure why that is.

Have you seen the video TS posted?

Could users of these light provide some brands/type numbers of devices now actually working with this plugin (I use the VU+ DUO)?

Hereby a short recording with use of the plugin in my 8000. I used a videoclip so you can see the changing and fading of the lights. If the scenechanges are not rapid as in most tv programmes or movies, the lights also change more slowly off course ;)

More examples are available on youtube (http://www.youtube.c...query=ambx&aq=f) but enclosed how it looks on a Dreambox using the plugin.

All in all you are happy with this result in your Home Entertainment Room?
Is it comparible with TV's with Ambilight?

Yep and yep.

The lights seem to make the spacial effect bigger. They are totally not annoying, on the contrary ;)

The lights have a USB plug which you can plug in to the Dreambox, so it should work with ambilight tv's as well (because the TV isn't used). But when you have a ambilight tv with the lights build in I think you don't need the plugin because the tv will then scan the colors itself (unless you want to place the amBX light in addition to the tv lights).
