Hi Guys,

firstly thamks for a great image and forum.

please can somebody give me instructions of how to mount my DM800 HDD to my DM500, also will this allow me to watch my recorded programs on the DM500 and also record from my DM500?

Home Networked by Lan

DM500s (Clone) Pli Jade 3
DM800 (Original) Nabilo BH0.12

I would really appreciate any help with this as so after many hours trying I've not been able to make it work.

NFS or CIFS?

Many thanks in advance

Kev

Welcome to the PLi board.

Allthough I haven't got a DM500HD I assume that the procedure is identical to the procedure which I used to mount the VU+ duo to the DM8000 and vice versa.
As I experienced some problems with this mount yesterday, due to my ignorance I'm afraid , I succeeded today in remounting the two boxes to eachother.

I am busy to make a wiki page for it but to start with it you mount the DM800 to the DM500HD with the networkbrowser, which is standard in the image. If not, you have to download this addon from the systemplugins. You can run the networkbrowser from the DM500HD through the menu - installation - setup - network and then you choose your adapter. There you run the networkbrowser.
Please take a look whether this works ok. No username and password needed.

More to come.

Hi
Frenske,

thank you for your kind help.
Yes I tried to search with the network browser within my DM800, but it wouldn't identifiy my DM500, it found my PC ok but not my other dreambox.
The only success I had was by setting up a NFS Server on my DM800 and then I managed to mount the DM500 to it, but it was very slow and problematic on playback of any recorded files.
To be honest if the DM800 could recongise the DM800 over my lan network, that would make it alot easier.
I look forward to your further support.
Regards,
Kev.

If the networkbrowser doesn't see the DM500HD then there must be something wrong with your network I assume.
The networkbrowser should be possible to 'see' all other users connected to thesame network as the DM800 itselve.
So please check whether the DM500HD is properly connected to your network through the menu - installation - system - network - active adapter and the try adapter setup or something like that. My box is with Dutch language.
There you should see a working network address simular to the one that your DM800 is in.

Hi,

my DM500 is definitley connected as I have fixed the IP address and I can connect to a friends server. Also I can telnet the box FTP, web-x the fixed ip address.

Sounds like it's going to be a pain.

Thanks again.

Kev.

It looks like he's trying to connect a 500-s not a 500HD...

The 500-s has poor network performance, especially with NFS.

If it was to work, the 500 may be able to record to & play mpeg-2 recordings off the 800, but not any mpeg-4 / h.264 content...

You can try this workaround if you actually have two E2 boxes.
Corrections are welcome if failures are found in my workaround.

EDIT: I think I need a new pair of glasses. :-)
He actually has a DM500 and he wishes to mount this to the harddisk of the 800.

The workaround differs slightly from the E2 mount. There is no networkbrowser.
Just fill in into the webinterface under boxcontrol, configurations and then mountmanager your specific networksettings and user and password of the DM800.
I just checked it and it works ok. Recording from the 500 to the 800 is a more difficult due to the poor networkperformance of the 500.

With the RC of the 500 push menu and then filemode and ten browse to the map movie. There you find the movies with the extensions .ts.
It looks different as you are used because the E2 methode is different.

EDIT: I just tried a recording from my DM500+ to the harddisk of the 8000. This works ok but, as mentioned by Hemospherical, the performance of a DM500 is worse. Viewing will be ok but recording is uncertain.

Hi Frenske,

I've managed to successfully mount my Dm800 HDD thanks to your help.

I just did it remotely using the web interface and I can now view all my recorded material.

Should the recordings made on the DM800 play ok on the DM500 (SD channels) through a wired cat5e network without any lagging or is there additional software/plugin required?

By the way I was nearly correct the first time, except instead of putting harddisk I was putting /hdd for the DM800 Hard drive.

Many thanks again.

Kev.
