I am not able to fix this - not enough time on my hands to understand the code without any documentation
Is there a "Enigma2 for dummies" guide anywhere that explains how to get started developing/hacking enigma2?

The keyboard is working with the DMM image, and was probably working in PLi as well, until they added the VirtualKeyboard.
the VirtualKeyboard is in the DMM image as well, are you saying the keyboard is still working with the current experimental DMM images?
And in those images, is it even working when the VirtualKeyboard is visible?
I'm still not sure what broke it. I think it's something we pulled in from the dmm repository, not necessarily something we modified ourselves.

Yes, I'm pretty sure the keyboard works in the dmm images, I tried the "experimental build" from somewhere around 21st oct. but can't be 100% sure that I tested the keyboard at that time, because I installed the dmm image in order to be able to burn a dvd (see my other thread/bug report).
What I can be sure of is that when I switched from dmm images (experimental) to PLi unstable/beta in january, the keyboard stopped working.
So it may well be possible that it's also broken in the DMM experimentals, as I may have had an older version of the dmm image than I had of the PLi image at that time.
I can't remember seeing anywhere in the DMM image where the virtual keyboard was visible.
Is it possible to make a config/settings option to turn off the virtual keyboard completely? That's all I need
I see that the Virtual keyboard python code is located in the extensions folder - it would be interesting to see what happens if I remove this extension... Will try that one day when the box is not being used.

I found this to be an excellent guide to start with: http://www.saunalaht...ment_toolchain/

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm currently using the Peter Pan image, since they released a new version and I wanted to see how that looked.
The keyboard doesn't work there either, when the virtual keyboard is visible on the screen (like in the EPG Search plugin).
It works in the autotimer plugin, if I don't use the wizard. It does not work when the wizard pops up the "keyboard layout of the sms-keyboard-like thing".
So I was wrong - it doesn't work in other images either and is probably a general problem with the virtual keyboard, like you said.
I will have a look at that guide and tro to fix the virtual keyboard (make it accept keys from the DMM keyboard) if I loose one of my two jobs
