Hi,

Does PLi team intend to support Vu+ Solo as they did for the Vu+ Duo?

Thanks for the great work!

No, we don't have any plans in that direction at the moment.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Thanks.
Is the hardware of Vu+ Solo so different from Duo? Why the team won't support this box as they did for the whole Dream Multimedia boxes family?

The hardware of the VU+ Solo is worse than the DM800, the box is overpriced, and the drivers aren't all that.

We're trying to get communication with VU+ going, because the drivers of the VU+Duo aren't that good as well, but there's not a lot of support from VU+. We don't want to "contaminate" our E2 environment with all kinds of dirty hacks just because the VU drivers aren't up to spec. We have to support a lot of hardware platforms with OpenPLi, we want the software a clean as possible, so we don't introduce instability.

If VU+ will improve their drivers, we might reconsider our current point of view.

I don't understand this policy. If someone can create all the openembedded rules needed to support a new machine, why you wouldn't add it? And not just for Vu Solo which is quite similar to other mips boxes. Let's assume I deliver all the openembedded rules to build OpenPLI for an sh4 box (IPBox 9000 for example), why you would not add it to the repository?

because we cannot support all boxes we dont own or develop ourselves

for example: if we ad your sources you should take care for all questions, feature request and bugfixes ;)

we, OpenPLi, cannot be held responsible for non working software from third parties

I understand this, that's why I mentioned the possibility that someone else provides all the openembedded stuff needed. After all it's an opensource project, the so called "someone" could create a new repository based on OpenPLI, but wouldn't be better to integrate it? I would guess OpenPLI is open to new people getting assigned new projects, no?

That is fair enough. So if the so called someone is willing to take on this task, a new box could be added.

not if that new box results in limitations on our enigma2 and general image developments.
We do not like to be limited, if that's the case, we prefer to simply support a smaller range of hardware, so we can spend more of our precious time on things that actually matter, rather than wasting time making sure everything works on every single device.

What is worse?
It has more flash than DM800, internal cardreader supports 3.3v and 5v cards, it has HDMI, its cooler than DM800. Better build quality for sure.
And it costs 240EUR, DM800 costs 370EUR.

worse as in the insufficient drivers, so we have to hack around inside the sources to get things normally running as other well developed boxes

for example: in the beginning the VU+DUO was set inside the drivers as a DM8000, recently it changed towards a DM500HD if i am well
therefore we needed to change our development environment so that the DUO was working well again as expected
thats the reason the videograb? still doesnt work at this moment for the DUO

Yes it does: Pieter rectified that. But you are quite right: that is "not done", VU+ should correct that (shouldn't have done that in the first place).

BTW: how does ET announce itself?

It would be an improvement if VU required less enigma2 patches....
