Hi everyone. I'm trying to create epg dat for JSTV (Japan Satellite TV). Every month I get 2 excel files from JSTV both TV listings for an entire month, one is in english one is in japanese. My goal is to be able to have epg data so my wife can select programmes to record with ease rather than maually making recordings all the time. Do you think you can help me acheive this? I would be most greatfull for any responces.

I think this is possible. Depends a bit on how the excel file is build.
If you can send me the english file (I would not be able to read the Japanese file) I will take a look and hopefully devise a scheme on how to convert to an XMLTV file which can be read by the xmltv importer into the box.

I really apprechiate it, thanks. Worst case senario I have to type it out again my self in a way you can use it. I'll do what ever it takes to have an epg.

It is possible.

However you have to reformat the data a bit.
On each page all the schedules have to be in one column.
So cut the second day and copy below the first day, and so on.
Look at the attached html file how it should look.

Next the sheet has to be saved in html.

I am using OpenOffice. But probably excel will also do this. (It is then possible that the next step has to be rewritten - but this is not a problem)

I have attached the html file as how it should look.

Next you will need TVxb (look at www.tvxb.com) and install.
Use the tvxb.ini file which is included in the attached zip file.
You can run TVxb with this ini file - it will download then my trials and convert it to a useable xml file ready for import in the sat box.

If you mastered these steps we will go on to setting up your own conversion scheme.

I'm very graetfull for any help but i'm affraid im a little confussed, I'll give it a go but im not a developer in anyway. I'm typical end user, it's just unfortunate that JSTV is not a popular channel so i'm having to try to do it myself.

Ok well I've tried to keep it simple and am doing JSTV2 as the Monday to Sunday is always the same. I have made a single list and saved it as a html file. Now as it is the dates are missing, but is there a cirtain way the dat should be layed out and placed in the file? As for TVxb I'm lost and confussed.

I found something, pls. take a look at this:

I can import this (except the night schedule). I will add this to the UK source (Acoording to your flag you live in the UK). I will be available in the next couple of days.
Simply import the UK source and the channel will receive the epg.

The night schedule is missing at the moment, but I keep working on this.

Thats great news Willy. Looking at the link you posted. The schedule seems correct except the timings are Central European Times. Would my dreambox adjust the timings from my time zone or will they look wrong for me?

Timings in the xdmltv file are always stored with the timezone included. And a dreambox can handle this. so this is no problem. (The dreambox will correct from the timezone provided to its own timezone)

This is an example on how the info is stored:

In this case is for GMT + 0400

This an example from the trials I did yesterday for the JSTV1 channel:

Do you think you could not include this data in UK download and perhaps make a new one for Japan or even oriental or asian. I'll just add the extra provider on to my dreambox then. (I can do that)

It is just one channel (I am still looking for the other) and I am not going to create a separate source for it.

Secondly - most of the oriental/asian channels which are available in the Uk are already present in the Uk sources. Admit-tingly most are Pakistanian and Indian.

Is the layout above ok to use, or you can teach me how to lay it out. I don't think you'll find another source for JSTV 2.
Also I would be most greatfull if you made a new provider file and not use the UK section. besides the channel is pan european on hotbird and although I may be the first to ask but i can't be alone in wanting the epg. I understand there are many people european wide and even as far as UAE watching this channel.

I think this layout should do very well.
Do I understand correctly that the schedule is unaltered for the complete month? It is only different for each day
In taht case you do not need to enter dates. I can use the day name.

If you can provide on this website the data in this form, I can pick them up from there for import and conversion to xmltv, so you do not have to do this complicated thing.

The file should be named with some conventions.
f.i. jstv2_epg_march.html
jstv2_epg_april.html

and so on.

As for the separate file. I will not produce a separate file for only two channels. However I stick these channels in more than one source if you want.

For instance the OSN package is meant for Nilesat and hotbird exclusively. This is another possibility.
The Csat and german sources are also possible.

Yes If you could put it into OSN that would be better for me. Also I can make JSTV1 aswell in the same format if you prefer as you mentioned you were having trouble with the other web site. Do you grab the info daily? as sometime there are schedule changes that are sent to me via email.
Would it be worth making changes on the fly? Also can your grabber do a whole month? how should i keep it updateded, ie daily weekly or monthly? with JSTV2 i'll do everyday rather than 7 days ofg the same as sometimes there are slight changes especially when the sumo is on.

Will put it in OSN as well.

You could do the JSTV1 as well - would be simpler.

I grab every day(between 1h00 an 3h00), so if you keep the file on the site updated, my grabber will update each day.

The grabber can do a month, however this depends on the amount of programme entries. The buffer is something like 1700 programmes big.

If you want to update the html files daily, pls use then a static file like:
jstv1_epg.html and jstv2.html.
Remove the days which are past (although not a prerequisite) and add or correct the file.

On JSTV1 there are dimonds to denote FTA, do I need to take them out or will they be ok. Also note times are local UK so now GMT 0 but when the clocks go foraward BST/GMT +1

Import works as a charm.

Those diamonds end up as a strange symbol on my screen. (after the import - in firefox they are diamonds)
They do not seem to bother the import though.
It is up to you if you remove them or not. I have not found a way yet of removing them.

You should have today epg on JSTV1 (except for the night.
I will change over to your provided schedule for the next download. From tomorrow you should have epg on JSTV1 and JSTV2

PS: if you want the epg in japanese try sticking the schedule of one day at the end of the file for one of the channels. Same format as before obvious.

And see if you can find it the next day on your box.

It is up to you to keep the files on your website updated.
