Hello everyone!

I was wondering what tools do you guys use that allow cutting HDTV Transport Streams (MPEG4 ts) on a Mac (lion); like editing out commercials and such. Mr google keeps pointing at Mpeg Slipstream (from squared5) which is a perfect and powerful high-quality video converter, player, and editor for most movie formats including Mpeg (SD signals) but unfortunately lacks and has no support for HDTV.

Thx in advance for your input.

You might want to search on the appropriate names.

What you're looking for is an editor for (mpeg1) transport streams
holding h264 (aka mpeg4 avc) video.

There is no such thing as a mpeg4 transport stream.

Thx Erik, Kosh, and ajeeb so much !!!

Erik; thx for clearing that up, that`s exactly what i`ve been meaning to say. Do you have an editor in mind?

Kosh; thx for the links, downloaded and installed Avidemux2, it kept closing right after launching, maybe it`s not Lion ready!!!. Did you have success with it?

ajeeb; thx for pointing that out, but Final cut express is a beast to say the least, I`m not a pro user, i`d be really grateful if you have a quick how-to to get me started.

I highly appreciate your input, thx !!!

No, I have no MacOSX, sorry.
Just saw that they were having a build for MacOS, don't know if it is suited to run on Lion.

Thx Kosh and ajeeb for your posts...

ajeeb; I felt reassured by what you said, I`ll see what my options are with Final cut once i get more comfortable...latest available version for download from Mas isn`t what a lot of pros have been expecting..or at least that`s what i could gather from online reviews. if you have any success with ts on fcp, please keep me posted and thank you "so very much".

i just test on Linux.
I open the *.ts file (enigma2 recording) with Avidemux.
Video and audio setting in avidemux at "copy" (so no changes)

Format (container) set to "MKV"
Then save. I get two warning messages (about b-frames who can make avidemux unstable, and another warning, in both cases i select cancel so that avidemux continue with your setting.
Then after processing i gotthe same video, same codecs, but in matroska media container (mkv). If you use HD recordings, then be shure you have a powerful computer.

Dreambox Dm8000 with all hardware addons donated to OpenPli. No interests anymore in policy of CanalDigitaal / M7 group and now-a-days channel encryption (like CI+ / HD+).

Good luck Enigma2 / OpenPli, it was fun with Sky Movies and so on, collected a nice collection of movies. Now back to basic boring lineair TV with KPN iTV (VDSL2 pair bonding 219 / 63 Mbps).

The VDSL pair bonding is excellent for... torrents to NAS in higher quality then HDTV (Like Dolby-TrueHD or DTS-Master-Audio soundquality ) :D

Thx...J3ro3n5ky & ajeeb!!!!

So Avidemux2 keeps crashing on both Snowlepard and Lion but has a different story on linux...good to hear that.

There is "cultist editor" & "cut tool" from the feed on db, I`ll see if enigma will handle the editing...the only option there is as a last resort for now...

I have a better solution for u ...

0. what box do u have ?
1. there is an extension for E2 called moviecut (pli servers exist) - u can cut the movie right in box
2. after u cut the movie it's ready for the next steps !
3. use a program called Handbreak www.handbrake.fr to conver to MKV,MP4

done !

Please note that the moviecut plugin doesn't cut accurately and also it
may introduce artifacts around the cut points because it cuts rather
crudely inside the transport stream.

My workflow is like this:

- make "raw" cut using moviecut
- convert the result to mjpeg, so each frame becomes independent, also
fix a/v sync issues, common with DVB
- use avidemux in COPY mode to accurately cut the mjpeg clips
- join / title clips
- use ffmpeg to convert the mjpeg clips to h264
- use mp4box to import the raw video and audio streams to mp4, ready to
play on the dreambox

For this you will need avidemux, ffmpeg and mp4box. If you can get these
on your mac, it should be possible. Although I must say that most
distributed versions of ffmpeg are either crippled or outdated or both,
so you'd best compile it yourself.

yeah ! but it's long way ! lot's of steps ...
in my opinion ... my provider broadcast movies with subs 3 languages ..(Hebrew,Arabic,russian) and 3 Audio streams
so if I cut the movie or convert it using any tool it will lose subs ! and audio
actually it's cuts great with my CT9100 ! no glitches ... sometimes it's mis-sync cause of my dish !
do u have any idea how to keep those properties ? cause I can't find a real native cutter for TS but moviecut ! make it's gr8

what am doing now I record and cut and movies stay at box if I need move to computer then need convert and add external subs !!
thanks for the input

moviecut indeed saves subs and audio channels.

There are ways to circumvent the loss of audio and sub tracks, but I
guess these are more for experienced users ;-)

Yes. And scripting and compiling ffmpeg yourself from git.
