Maybe a beginners question, but searching for epg.dat gives zero result.

I see that the epg.dat file is stored on my harddisk.
I assume that this file contains all epg data? Is it from rytec xml import, or from the channels itselves.

Anyway, i prefer to have all epg data on my Compact Flash / CF (or usb for non cf users). So that the harddisk will only spin up if it records or play a recording. (timeshift/backup/picons is also on CF here).

How can I make this work, to move all epg data to CF(non HDD)?

Dreambox Dm8000 with all hardware addons donated to OpenPli. No interests anymore in policy of CanalDigitaal / M7 group and now-a-days channel encryption (like CI+ / HD+).

Good luck Enigma2 / OpenPli, it was fun with Sky Movies and so on, collected a nice collection of movies. Now back to basic boring lineair TV with KPN iTV (VDSL2 pair bonding 219 / 63 Mbps).

The VDSL pair bonding is excellent for... torrents to NAS in higher quality then HDTV (Like Dolby-TrueHD or DTS-Master-Audio soundquality ) :D

Hi,

The file epg.dat is only written to your system when you reboot your box and then this file is just loaded after the reboot to import all the epg data into it's memory.

Maybe with:

cd /hdd

ln -s /media/usb/epg/epg.dat epg.dat

In /etc/enigma/settings add the folowing line:
config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat

The epg.dat will be saved in /media/usb after the next restart.

With this you only create a symbolic link, this will not move the epg.dat from the HDD to the CF card so the harddisk will still spinup when he shutdown and startup his box.

Tested it here, no epg.dat on my old location, its now on my usb stick.
So why would it spinup the hdd? Becourse epgc tries to read something from /hdd {spinup} / oh its a link to ->usb/epg/epg.dat?
So the reading of symlink is enough to trigger a spinup...

But de solution of Korsan is better.. Implementing it right now :)

Awesome...
I use
config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/cf/epg.dat
and it works, thanks.

For me this is not working...
Tried this but after resart the added line config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat is missing the settings file. I'm using an ClarkeTech ET9000 here. Any other idea or working solution?!

You have to stop Enigma2 before editing the settings file. Otherwise you loose your changes.

So what are the correct steps to edit the settings file?
Can somebody please list subsequent telnet commands to do so?
Thanks.

init 4
#edit
init 3

(note: init 4 will "kill" enigma2, you may lose recent timer settings etc.)
