I recently got me a Dreambox 800HD SE and it's really working great except that there is something I don't quite understand.
When I flashed my box with the latest OpenPLI 2.1 beta it got the IP address by holding down button in the front while turning it on.
Now when I go into network adapter settings I get the following ip address xxx.xxx.1.231 which by the way is the same as I
got when initially flashing my box.
The problem now is that when I try to connect to the box from my PC I cannot get in contact with it using the above address.
Instead I have to use xxx.xxx.1.183 to connect. I figured that out by logging into my router and checking the DHCP clients.
Then yesterday I setup a DM800HD SE for one of my friends and the exact same thing happens!!!
I really hope somebody can explain what I am doing wrong or don't understand.
Does it have something to do with the OpenPLI image? Because when I enter the flash website by holding button and turning on the box
I get the same address as before xxx.xxx.1.231 and here I can enter my box from my PC by using the address.
It seems like when my box has booted the OpenPLI the IP address changes but still writes xxx.xxx.1.231 in the adapter settings.
Sorry but I am no network expert ;-)

Thanks in advance

This is an issue with the dhcp server (probably your internet router).

This just seems weird since my friend has the exact same problems and he has both a different router and ISP.

If you can connect with xxx.xxx.1.183 and the box works fine, and the network works fine, there seems to be no problem at all. It would be a problem if the box got another address at every boot, but it doesn't, does it?

I for one really don't care what address they get (though i did tell my ancient router to lock it to the MAC address), I just use their name (should be "dm800se" in your case) to reach them.

I think I solved the problem now. I reserved the IP address for the MAC address of my DM. I believe it has something to do with IP releasing in my router.

With short lease times you can easily get into this.

My dreambox has also a fixed ip in my router dhcp leases

A good (i.e. following internet standards) implementation of dhcp won't ever give you these problems (if sufficient addresses are available).

As Milo stated before: don't care about the ip use boxname instead. Whatelse is DNS for?!
