From the "official" dreamboxupdate.com site:
05 September 2011 - Improved flash error correction
Starting today, images for the models DM500HD, DM800 SE and DM800HD PVR include an improved flash error correction feature.
In order to benefit from the improvements, it is required that you either flash the new image with the latest version of DreamUP (V1.3.3.8) or flash a new second stage loader ( DM500HD DM800HD PVR DM800 SE ) before flashing the image via your browser or other means.
If you use the online update functionality, the new second stage loader will automatically be installed after rebooting.
It is recommended that you flash the new image for improved stability.

OpenPLi just recently moved to the new SSL & drivers (mid Oct.). If you're already running OpenPLi (not running a clone) it looks like the online update might update without first flashing the new secondstage-dm500hd-84.nfi.

no we use #84 in our image.
However, online update from 83-->84 doesn't always work on the dm500hd (or 800 / 800se for that matter), so when you still have 83, you should flash a 84 bootloader nfi.

Hepps, Okay, I already tried to do a online update and Pli updated fine, during update I noticed that it downloaded seconstage, but after reboot I still have #83.
I thought that the problem would be that the box would not boot after update if something would go wrong?

oh, dm500hd I see.
Well, I'd flash the bootloader if I were you. But indeed, it might still boot fine, only a relatively small number of people reported problems.

Yes, I already flashed the boot loader with dream up, and to my surprise the image stayed, and no re flashing of Pli was required. Very good .....
