Since I'm not using it to hold any satellite information do you think I can get it to work? Not sure how to do that even if I could.
Was thinking to compile a firmware and mpd under the old tuxbox project's development kit. It gets hairy when I start thinking about it though.
What do you think?

Once that was working a local Shoutcast server was setup so that I could stream from another device through shoutcast and into the dm500.
The issue is that I can't get streaming from the local shoutcast server to the DM500 to work. The server does work and I can listen to the streams with iTunes when sourced from my laptop. With regards to streaming via Dreamcast, a variety of settings in Shoutcast have been used to get streaming to work. It looks like the mountpoints for the stream don't seem to be compatible with the format accepted by Dreamcast. Any other plugin's out there that someone might be aware of?
This is what brought about the desire to try MPD.
Has anyone had any success with any of the above recently?
I've done a bunch of digging too without luck. Thanks for the support!

The goal is to have it all local to the internal network without the need for an Internet connection. Will update this thread if it works out as designed.

The following was configured:
||Celeron Headless PC: [centos] + [mpd httpd streaming]|| + [one of the many mpd clients] + [DM500 as a streaming client] + [amplifier] = working
The following posts were helpful for me:
http://mpd.wikia.com...from_a_Dreambox
http://rednerd.com/2...n-ubuntu-10-04/
After setting up MPD on the Celeron CentOS PC using the HTTP streaming audio output as noted in the above posts, an M3U playlist file was created on the DM500 with the following contents:
http://192.168.0.3:8001/
where 192.168.0.3 is the IP of the Celeron, and port 8001 is defined in the audio_out line of MPD.
Once MPD is running on the Celeron Machine at 192.168.0.3 I connect to it with one of the many MPD clients (I use an iPad) and start playback. Then on the DM500 I navigate through File Mode to the playlist file and click OK. The stream starts and I have sound from the DM500 coming out of the amplifier.
This is especially perfect since just after getting it working, the actual sound card on the Celeron Headless crapped out.
The playback is smooth and clear. The only issue is having to start the stream with the m3u playlist file described above each time playback on the mpd client is restarted. Oh well, can't be pefect...yet
As a workaround for having to always start the stream I just load a few days worth of music and start that playing then mute the dreambox when I want silence.
Hope this helps other people, not especially unique but it does work well.
