Of course it is ok to use this script/plugin/whatever. It's free software and you are entitled to do with it whatever you want.

Do you mean that the last version (8.1) doesn't work on an Ultimo? Or specific not running on an Ultimo running on Bh ?

Maybe the package was not added in the feeds of the other models VU+ or there are some download problems.

I am not usigng Pli image but my mkfs version is patched.
Pheraps is better that other Pli users will report to you if the 8,1 works or not.
For me it doesn't work.

P.s. why do you added nanddump and ubinize to the package ?
They are already in the image.


P.s. if you make a tool for extract images too we can use for multiboot

You're right the main goal (and only goal as far as I'm concern) is that it is working without problems on the Openpli systems as produced here. When it also works on other systems then it's nice

As far as I know nanddump and ubinize are part of the package mtd-utils and is not loaded/installed by default. Only the package mtd-minimal-nand-utils is installed but doesn't provide these files. The mtd-utils does contain a lot of files which is a bit of overkill to install these I think.

That's not in the range of my capabilities, I'm no coder, just at best a script kiddie (a rather old one for a kiddie I must say)

I mean that including these files in your suite you will go to overwrite the original system files.
I am not sure that this is good.

Ok Pedro, all solved.
Your 8.1 version works fine. The problem was a different way to handle patch in Black Hole image.
I wrote a native plugins for BH image and use a modified version of your script.
It will be tested in the next days from the team on all the Vu+ boxes and you will be thanked in the credits of next bh release.

When I do a backup (openpli from mid december) with latest version (7.4) of backupsuite on my ET9000 the backup completes but after it starts creating the root.ubifs I see the message (in german)

ubinize: volume size was not specified in section "ubifs" assume minimum to fit image

Yes that message is just a notification about the size of the back-up and no error message. With the new Backupsuite version 8.2 this message is suppressed.
Your back-up will be working fine.

If you do an online update you will get the 8.2 version

Here's a new version of the BackupSuite. Because there was a change in the way on how USB-diskdrives are mounted there where some problems if the user wanted to make a full back-up onto HDD.
Because the USB-HDD's didn't get mounted on media/hdd the full back-up failed.

I tried to overcome these problems and I think i succeeded.
When the option Full back-up to HDD/USB is chosen the plugin checks all devices (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, /dev/sdd1 and /dev/sde1), first for the filesystem EXT(x) (EXT2, EXT3 or EXT4) and second if device reaches a certain minimum (33 GB at the moment) to avoid writing to USB-sticks. As third action the greatest available EXT* filesytem is used to write the back-up onto.

At the start of the process the plugin shows on which mount the back-up is written, the total size of the chosen device and the free size on the device.
For instance
Back-up -> /media/hdd (931 GB)
Free ----> 884 GB *


* note:
The total size and the free size are in "real" GB, so total bytes divided by 1.073.741.824 instead of what manufactures do dividing by 1.000.000.000. A 1 TB disk shows up as a disk with a 931 GB capacity.
