This is already being discussed off-topic in the front display thread, but I'd like to open a new topic for this.

Using OpenPLi on my Vu+ Ultimo, I am unable to enter any letters or numbers in editable fields, for instance when editing a timer. When I go to the name of the timer, the first press of any number button clears the current title, but it is not possible to enter any new characters. Also when trying to change the start/end time, nothing happens when pressing the buttons.

On the other hand, changing channels using the number keys works perfectly. So it's just an issue within E2 menus.

Can anyone with a Vu+ Ultimo and OpenPLi confirm this?

I think it's related to the alpha keys (which don't work yet) on the remote. The RC reports that it has alpha keys, and thus enigma2 doesn't activate the SMS "keys".

indeed, because the driver sends keyboard and rc key events from the same source, e2 does not have a way to find out where they originated from, so it cannot treat them differently.

This has been solved in ViX; maybe it' s worthwhile to have a look at their GIT?

Correct, but VU+ refuses to do so.

Kind of a strange solution IMHO. Just to clarify an obvious misunderstanding: I am NOT using the original remote but a Philips Pronto, so I am not using any of the alpha keys of the original remote.

Besides, the solution doesn't seem to work for me. What exactly do you press? And what virtual keyboard do you refer to? The default T9-like E2 thingy that pops up whenever there is some text to enter? I think this is also what MiLo refers to when he says "SMS keys". This window actually IS opened for me whenever I'm in an editable field, but nothing happens when I press the number buttons.

you must press the teletext button. should be also on your Philips Pronto.
I use a Logitech, and there it is the button.

When I press the Teletext button when being in an editable field, the only thing that pops up is the "not allowed" sign in the upper left corner.

Just to clarify this again: I DO SEE the T9/SMS-like input window. It is opened automatically whenever I am in an editable field. I believe that this was not the case for you, and when you press the Teletext button, this very same window pops up, right? As said, this window opens up for me automatically as it should, but I'm still unable to enter anything. So for instance I would press "2" repeadetly to enter an a, b, c or a 2, and I would see a cursor in that "2" field which marks the active character. Just like SMS input. But this does not happen. I see the window, but nothing happens when I press any of the number keys. But the number keys DO work for channel switching, so it's not an issue about having the keys learned wrongly on my Pronto. Besides, I did of course also tried the original remote, but doesn't work either.

there's nothing wrong with the remote itself, just with the driver.
It advertises to be a keyboard, so e2 will treat it as a keyboard, rather than a remotecontrol.

But from what you and MiLo said above, you are assuming that the T9/SMS-like window does not appear (because E2 thinks there is a alpha keyboard present), preventing me from entering something using that window. But that is not the case. As I said, the windows DOES come up, it's just not possible to actually use it.

no, that's not correct. That 'window' is not an input window, it's just a bit of help text.

So what window are you referring to? I have never seen any other input window on any other E2 receiver than the one I'm seeing here as well.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing when I edit a timer. The window I thought you are referring to (to be missing) is down below? If you meant something else - what exactly?

Milo and I were not refering to a 'window', but to 'the way e2 handles keys'.

(and kaneguru is probably refering to the virtualkeyboard window, which is not related to this issue)

I noticed in the changelog that there was some RC code related changes 3 days ago. Has this issue been fixed now? Sorry, can't test myself; I went back to VTI image, egerly waiting for PLi to fully support the Ultimo.

Same question goes for the VFD. The changelog also shows an update regarding this 3 days ago. Is the VFD now fully working, especially the HD and crypt icon?

The problem with letter input is still a topical one, as letter input from the remote control doesn't work on Vu+ ultimo, pli 3.0

In ViX there's a solution for this: maybe PLi can adapt that?
