So in fact you say that if there would be a menu-entry called "PVR' (or movie-list or so) that would be more userfriendly then having a dedicated button on your R/C as is now the case?
I don't think the 'Menu' is needed for any normal user-function at all; only system specific tasks are in there.

Yes But call it DVDplayerPVR or so . But very young or very old They all became used to menu button on wathever device it is dreambox tv or ....
They all become used to follow things with arrows as long they see it's happening no prob (and they proud of it to be able to do it), Now You take there favorit tool away ..... (which a time before caused them so much trouble)
They actually never understand what they where dooing but following the good visual guidance they came where they wanted. And that MODERN THING -:) did something usefull

Now yes actually the pvr is even easier for me altough. But for them really a step to far like I said it's more psychological then logical. And ye,.... The visual aspect off having it presented is importent, that's about user friendly or not. Sometime really wierd but I would say very HUMAN. :P

In fact we talking about the same issue as Neutrino remote control... We have Enigma now for more years then someone did likely used Neutrino - but still people need/want the Neutrino remote key method so they are stick to the Pauli plugin..... But they never find the advantages of something new because stick witth the old....

No that's has nothing to do with this point. The working trough PVR remote comand bouton to play all possible media is very nice, and does not have to be turned back at all. But it's for very young older and a lot off persons a step to far. Just adding a menu item which does the same as pushing the pvr button on the remote control carrying the Name DVDPlayer, that's all they need to make it user friendly.

When they put a DVD in the DVD player attached or inside the box...the DVD player will return in the menu by itself........

So if I understand you correctly
Menu --> DvD-Player --> Navigate --> OK
is easier then
PVR --> Navigate --> OK
You really lost me there...........

I think, energy for discuss about "DVDPlayer in menu yes/no" could be used for some next things and result could be: add options for DVDPlayer into expert. There exist so much options, that adding this one doesnt kill world... I think, a lot of users want it and when DVDPlayer have not own menu, option could be there.

@SatKiekerd: do you think, what is better: Menu - 5 - select some or Menu - Down,Down,Down,Down, Ok - select some? And when you put DVD into driver, it is alway Menu+(number+1). Strange, yes ?
=> better is add for users options some as" permanent displaying DVDPlayer in menu" and who want be masochist, can using conditional displaying if is/isn't DVD in device ;) .
DVDPlayer in menu is for playback a real DVD's better than Movieplayer and bookmark to device.
In plugin it is only modify condition f.eg. to:
if config.plugins.showinmenu_dvdplayer.value or cd and os.path.exists(os.path.join(harddiskmanager.getAutofsMountpoint(harddiskmanager.getCD()), "VIDEO_TS")):
and one line in setup.xml and one line in UsageConfig.py. I think, it is less energy, than all threads about it here on forum.

Note:
It seems, problem with overlay from movieplayer was repaired with skin's changes in movieplayer position bar. :) But time to time it is waiting for "some" ... time to time is some over PIG ...

Hi,

but is won't help having DVDPlayer in Main Menu, as the embedded Filebrowser Screen has been removed..

So you cannot navigate to the wanted file deestnation to start playback from... (like it was before the changes)

and one note: why movieplayer does not playback with selecting MAIN directory ( if subdirectory is VIDEO_TS), and must be selected VIDEO_TS yet ?
And finishing/stop of playback ending on VOD files. Better would be ending on MAIN directory again.

If you want mediaplayer in the main menu, just enable it in the mediaplayer's setting.

but the MP gives me a GS.... any solution?

Sure, don't replace its code with something broken.

When it will works, try same with this, but into /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/DVDPlayer directory.
I am using old file with obsolete build-in filemanager.

I would like to thank you too for this patch. As a Pauli user I also rely on the "old" menu structure.

Is it possible to have a "play bar" on the openpli player when playing music files?

In Python 2.6, if memory serves, we had a Media Centre and DVD Player was (at least sometimes) integrated with Media Centre, if you chose to install that one...

Now, in Python 2.7, I can't get it to work in any sense of the word, as DVD Player. MP, MP2 or Xtrend Media Centre - it only plays individual files.

But the simple and proper DVD Player menu, where you choose a title/folder and it plays - is no more...

Or is it really like that? Some say that one can get a DVD menu and choose etc.?

For those who have been wondering/searching/pulling their hair - I better write this so there is  less searching and frustration.... :)

In OpenPLi it is indeed built-in and it was done well! But it was poorly advertised, so to speak, it seems to me.... maybe...

They call it a PVR button/function (maybe that is what it is called on DMM's RCU?) but...

On my F500HD one must press VIDEO button (PVR is a fancy techy name for it) on your multi-media player's remote controller, then navigate to your Video (shared folder) > DVD folder > VIDEO_TS folder > OK and.... it's going.... Now, you can go through the main menu and choose which song/chapter, audio setup and whatnot... it just is playing!!!! :)

I have quite a few good quality DVDs on my NAS and to me this is quite important, as sometimes I am insisting on quality recordings... ;)

One down, a few hundred to go... :D :D :D
