Hi everyone!
I use xmltv import on a enigma 2 based Extrend box.
Now I have found a xmltv provider that provide much more info about movies and tv-series. But I can´t get that info in to my box epg. Is there any way to do this?
See info from xml-file below, nothing below </desc> in bold is importing.

Best regards, nickepe

I can add all this info too:

<actor>Craig T. Nelson</actor>
<actor>Dax Shepard</actor>
<actor>Monica Potter</actor>
<actor>Erika Christensen</actor>

<actor>Sarah Ramos</actor>

<category lang="en">Drama</category>
<url>http://thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&amp;seriesid=94551&amp;seasonid=66651&amp;id=1734641&amp;lid=8</url>
<episode-num system="xmltv_ns">0 . 8 .</episode-num>
<episode-num system="onscreen">Del 9 s&#228;song 1</episode-num>
<video>
<quality>HDTV</quality>
</video>
<star-rating>
<value>6.2 / 9</value>
</star-rating>

But this is not imported into the box. There are no provisions for it.
Only the tag <title>, <subtitle> and <desc> are imported.

So, don´t we have a challenge here: how do we take the xmltv importing (for dream box kind of boxes anyway...) into the 21st century and be able to import stuff like rating, actors and maybe even hyperlinks to trailers and so on? :rolleyes: B)
the info is there as you can see in my xml-file.
Wish that I could program some nice little importer tool with all these features but I can´t, but my challenge is:
Is there anyone out there who can?

You could rewrite the importer and import all the stuff into the description field. Which is just the stuff I am already doing with the XMLTV files. I try to include the actors and director already into the description field (when they are available).

Secondly, new fields could be provided in enigma2, to hold all these separate info, and a new importer would fill these fields.

I recently switched to rytec xmltv files (benl and uk) for feeding my MythTV system EPG. This is way easier than using half a dozen of tools and data sources for covering all satellite channels, and keeping up with outages of these sources. However, the missing "category" and "rating" fields in the xmltv files make a big difference in MythTV, as these are commonly used in the predefined searches, and are used to colour the EPG. For instance I used to be able to quickly scroll through a list of quality movies each day, and this is not possible any more with rytec-powered EPG. Any plans to go ahead with the implementation as described above?

Thanks for the rytec service!

JM

Hello,
At this moment we do not integrate the category and rating fields because they are not used in the enigma boxes.
and also a main reason of removing this was the amount of data.
In the beginning of our epg data coverage I had not enough space to keep all these files and the bandwidth was also bigger for downloading.
I only had one server at that time.
Now we have a little more room for all this with thanks to some forum clients and also some open source builders.
Maybe we could see if it would be possible to add these fields again, but I do not promise anything yet.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for taking my request into consideration. If additional fields were to be added to the rytec xmltv, another candidate could be the "subtitle" field, which is also commonly used in MythTV to differentiate episodes and to display the titles of documentaries shown in generic programmes such as Panorama, Vranckx, Koppen, etc.

Just a thought: if bandwidth is a concern, maybe two versions of the xml files could be generated: the ones that exactly fit the purpose and use of enigma users (downloaded by most users), and the best-possible standards compliant xmltv file, for users of other systems. Then the additional bandwidth would only be used for those that really want the additional information.

Thanks again!

Jean-Marc

Hi JM,
Could you please tell me how you import the Rytec EPG into MythTV? Also how are different timezones handled?
Cheers,
Daniel
