Is there any open source version of the plugin webmedia or anything that is similar? A plugin that scrapes websites for media, and has the ability to play the video content to sat box.

I (being the developer) have the codes for the plugin Webmedia. I have not included the .py files in the plugin, firstly, because this will double the size of the installed plugin, and secondly, the codes have to be revised frequently as the methods change. But, I am a strong believer in opensource - and therefore I give helpful advice to anyone who asks me.

My general advice to any interested developer is that - the method mainly involves examining the source texts of the webpages - and of course, google.

Consider placing your code on Github or so, then the plugin can be added to the feed automatically. As a "strong believer in opensource" you cannot do less.

Thank you for your comment. It is not like other plugins. As far as the source is concerned - there is nothing for others to develop further. It just reads the webpage source and finds the streams.

I do not want to cause any problem for anybody by widely publishing the streaming methods. In any case - these change frequently.

I understand the authors concern.
If a well-documented method is published, with sourcecode, of how to circumvent the measures taken by content providers to ensure that their content remains available only under their strict conditions, this will encourage those content providers to take different, even tougher measures.

And the author needs to change his code more frequently. Thats in this case a major drawback of publishing the source

I don't really believe the argument about publishing source code will mean that the site will be changed any sooner. For an example the BBC iplayer code has been open source for xbmc under GNU GPL v2. It's up there for over 2 years now, and is still working. Having more eyeballs on the code means more people can help. That's what open source is all about.

I have never written a plugin for enigma2, but I have for xbmc. Both are written in python, so I'd imagine they can't be too different.
The main code that I'm looking for is, how to display info on the sat box and examples using regex for accessing a single site.
If you could post somewhere the code and under what licence you use, I would be very grateful.

With a small module from Webmedia - I have made a plugin for you to see what is involved in the process. I am sure it will be quite easy to adapt many xmbc plugins to this format.

Please note the material for this plugin is 16+.
