So, the drivers do matter and the ones that are in non-OFW are not as good, compiled who knows how...

Question is: Why is the PQ with UFS 910/Original Software so much better than with e2?

PS: The PQ of my et9x00/e2 is equivalent to the PQ of the UFS 910/e2.

Have already answered that. The drivers for enigma2 images are not by STi. Official STi drivers support STAPI. Drivers for E2 images are built based on leaked source (called Havana Project) from STi that was never finished and was never supported. 3rd party people (team-ducktales, Tideglo for IPBOX and others) have improved the Havana project derived drivers, but still they do not perform as well as original STi drivers.

@Erik: Hardware does matter, but software drivers have to support the hardware options. Fot STi boxes with E2, we are talking about completely unsupported drivers from the SoC manufacturer, and people developing them don't have access to undisclosed chipset APIs for STi chips and reverse-engineering is difficult.

When I first startet to run e2 on my UFS 910 PQ was even worse than todays e2. PQ was just terrible and completely inacceptable for me. After a while they (AAF-Team) were able to improve PQ significantly and since then I used e2 on the 910. But still no comparison and not even close to the excellent PQ of Original OS/drivers.

Thanks for the answer! Must have overlooked it. Sorry.

However, would be nice if the drivers for e2/broadcom could be improved to perform as well as the original drivers on the 910. Or isn't this possible?

BDCM charge for everything, which is why you get minimal support initially and then everything is coming with a price tag attached, whatever you ask for...

But even Ali are now doing something just as stupid: if you wanna develop Linux for it they will support you but charge crazy money for it...

Instead of supporting you properly and fully, if not pay you themselves to do it, since then they will sell a lot more...

Crazy!!!

Speaking of "objective measurement", here is an example:

http://www.hdtvtest....01105161138.htm

http://store.spectracal.com/

How objective is it?

Who calibrates the calibration tool?

By which (whose) standards?

Or how exactly does it operate/what exactly is it based on?

Hello,

Coming from HTPC world which is the top in term of picture quality, provided one use the adequate graphic card + codec ...I would say the PQ is pretty good on my videoprojector.
Just had to put at the maximum the sharpen and found HDMI output brightness, contrast and color level much lower versus graphic card one's...All need to be set...
But I supose PQ depends very much of the CPU type in use in the STB....
The Broadcom 7413 installed in recent VU+ and XTrend is excellent....
