I've read on various forums that there are owners of VU + DUO receivers that have problems with the picture freezes or it pixelates at playback of recorded material from the disk.
Some suggests it is the most claiming to be on the Western Digital and their Green series in particular.
I myself have a Samung 500GB drive in mine and also have these problems.
In order to continue watching what you play you get to rewind about 15 seconds and then resume playing, but the error occurs again after some time .....
Stops to play and then resume it again then it works a bit longer but it wont come back after a while.
I run with OpenPli and softwarecam.
Is there somebody workaround for this problem, type settings in the receiver?

It seems to be a generic VU+ problem, and indeed related to a local harddisk. People that don't have one (like myself, I record on a server) don't have any issues.

The problem is memory/driver related, which is closed source and the manufacturers responsability to fix. Nothing we can do about it apart from complain (which we do ;)).

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Hi
I had the same issue.
I copied all contens away from the HD, via FTP. I took some time (hours).
Then I formated the harddrive via the PLI menu, and did NOT convert to EXT4, just left it as it were... EXT3 I think..
Then I FTP' ed all back to my harddrive.....which took forever....23 hours, but it solved the problem

Jan

If you format the disk via the menu, the disk will be in ext4 format.

I also had this problem before the latest driver-update (20120228).
With the new drivers the playback problem seems to be solved, no problem with pixelate or freezing, BUT now the stopping in recordings are back, just like with the first drivers for kernel 3.1.1. :(
Sometimes there is almost 10 seconds lost in recordings.

One step forward and to steps back........

Do you have this problem only once per recording in the beginning? Then it might be the same I have. The resaon for my glitches is that the first few dozen megabytes written to the hdd after mounting are terribly slow. So slow that not everything can be buffered and a few seconds are lost. Especially in HD-recordings.

or actually the first question would be: are the problems occurring during recording, or during playback?

I record to a nas and also struggle randomly but few times with th pixelating. Stopping and resuming fixes it in 95% of the cases. Not sure it is internal hdd related.

If you use a nas then of course it is not your hdd. In my case the problem is the ext4 driver.

I also have these problem but I play all my recordings/dvds from a NAS server, so not from a local disk.

It seems to be much better after a reboot. After a reboot I don't have such problems for a couple of days and then they come back.

It´s not in the beginning, it can be several minutes into the playback and sometimes at several occasions during the same playback.
It is during HD-recordings.

Well, you can obviously see the problem during playback but I think it is created while recording.
While playing through a "stopping" the timeline-counter keeps counting but the picture is frozen.
The same problem occured with the first drivers for the new kernel but was corrected later.
The pixelate problem has been present with all drivers until the latest (20120228), after that I have not had any pixelate problems, but as I mentioned the "stopping/freezing" came back.

I can also mention that I´m using the "nodellaloc" option for my HDD as suggested in some previous threads, like this...
/etc/fstab

/dev/sda1 /media/hdd ext4 defaults,nodelalloc,data=writeback 0 0

Simple way to find out:
When you play the same recording several times, do the problems occur on the exact same locations, every time?

Yes, that´s why I think it is recording-related.

- i have the problem when playing dvds so no recording involved.
- skipping back 15 seconds fixes it most of the time (the same piece of video is shown correct then).
- playing the same dvd again show the problem at different places.
- after a reboot of the device the problem seems gone bit wil get back after a few days/dvds.

probably a vu-driver issue... maybe memory leakage ???

Indeed, same here. Rebooting or just pausing or rewinding fixes it always so unlikely to be part of the recording nor the hdd (only have a nas)
