Hi

I have latest OpenPLi-2.1 (multiboot) on DM800 se.
When new skins selected from download plugins menu, after downloading, installation fails because of some errors which related to overwriting some existing files in enigma 2 packages.

I fix the problem by manual installation from telnet with --force-overwrite.

But i want to know what the problem is, and why the other images do not have same problem.

And which skin is this? You are not helping us by providing very little info!

In most cases problem can be avoided by deleting all skins except default one.

Installation all skins i tried (like pli-hd-m-mod_2.0) from online panel fail.
Deleting all skins except default seems not a good solution. With -force-overwrite problem was solved.
But the question is why this happens?

it's because some of these mod_something skins try to overwrite files already provided in the image (by default or by another skin etc...)
//and if one really wants to do something like this (which is often not a good idea as such), some kind of preinstall script (yes, I know, but just lesser of two evils ;)) should be included in the package , otherwise such skin is not 'online installable'...
True sarcasm doesn't need green font...

Thanks, but why this happens only for PLi images not for the others?

Another question is using -force-overwrite command for solving problem is safe or not?

(multiboot)

Could it be multiboot related?

No i have it too , manly with the modded skins .
When you force the skin to install, the next time you update ,you have to force overwrite enigma2 too

Skins should not overwrite anything.

If they do, they "mod" internal components, and that is a disaster waiting to happen (as we have seen with the Glass skin recently).

I vote to remove all skins that do this from the download, the Glass incident has shown that we have to spend a lot of time helping people fix the problems these skins cause...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

If a skinner wants a modified version of a python module already offered, the proper way to do is to copy to a new filename and change slightly the onject name. For example,. change PliExtraInfo to PliExtraInfoMyMod or something.
skinners should discuss their requirements/addons in PliExtraInfo and similar objects and if they are really usefull, they could be added in main object.

Even they should not modify PliExtraInfo or so....!!!! But they can still use it.... most info is already available in a standard way. And when something extra is needed they can better create their own files i.s.o. overwriting existing ones....
