I am new to messing with OpenPLi stuff, so I would like to know if all the boxes you guys support will have the new kernel included (and why if the answer is 'no'), please?
Thanx!!!

Linux 3.3 has been released (official announcement) on 18 Mar 2012.
Summary: This release features as the most important change the merge of kernel code from the Android project. But there is more, it also includes support for a new architecture (TI C6X), much improved balancing and the ability to restripe between different RAID profiles in Btrfs, and several network improvements: a virtual switch implementation (Open vSwitch) designed for virtualization scenarios, a faster and more scalable alternative to the "bonding" driver, a configurable limit to the transmission queue of the network devices to fight bufferbloat, a network priority control group and per-cgroup TCP buffer limits. There are also many small features and new drivers and fixes are also available.[list=1]

Wether new kernels can be used is dependent on whether the (closed source) drivers of the manufacturer are available for that kernel. Most of the time they're simply not available.

So, it has to be supported by the manufacturer, i.e. the new kernel and drivers have to be integrated by them?
No chance of reverse engineering, for instance?

the kernel is built by us, so in theory we could build a 3.3 kernel for all hardware.
However, the media drivers are provided as binaries by the manufacturers.
And in order for them to be loaded, they have to be built against the exact same kernel.
So in the end, we have to use the kernel version for which the manufacturer provides the drivers.
Which is 2.6.18 for dream, 3.1 for vu, and 3.3 for et.
